I've never quite understood the rioting and destroying your city whenever your team wins.

This. Makes it seem like your team sucks so bad that you can't believe they pulled it off.

True champs just expect to win.

I was in Paris when they hosted and won the world cup in 98. Had a huge impromptu projection screen at the Hotel de Ville. Was on the Champs d'Ellysses when the riots broke out. Women I was with freaked out when they started flipping the little smart cars over.

All I could think was that they rioted like they fight wars.
Seen worse stuff in South Texas. Broke a few windows in the McDonalds and that was it.

"Our city's the best! WOO! BURN THE MOTHERfrickER DOWN!"

I would like to point out that New Orleans' response to winning was simply to prove that even they have an extra level of drunkenness they can call on when the situation warrants.

You realize that similar things have happened in the US, right?

That was probably the most crime free night the city ever had.

Tell that to the ultra-conservatives in Morgantown, WV that burn couches after even a meaningless win.

Most liberals think it only happens here, not in the “enlightened” rest of the world. Especially not Europe.

According to what study?

I’m sure some think that, but to say “most liberals” feel that way is likely just your bias coming out.
