re: Returning the shopping cart is the litmus test to whether you can self govern or not.

I might have mentioned this on here before but I was with my dad recently and he called out one of the baddest looking black dudes for not returning their cart. My dad is in his 80's. He looked at us and said, "You're right." And he returned the cart. I've asked him to stop doing things like that but his GAS is broken beyond repair.

I always park out by the cart corral so I can conveniently return my cart.

I return mine plus another one or two that trashy people leave behind.

I worked in a grocery store in high school. NOBODY returned their carts back then (80s). We didn’t think anything of it. The cart returning is a new concept.

I always return mine, but I have zero expectation for people that have infants or toddlers with them. Way too many desperate, deranged people out there. Stay with the kids.

Not only do I return my cart, but I also try to make a point of taking a cart some asshat has left out in the parking lot.

No there's not. The odds of your kids getting kidnapped while you return a cart are essentially zero. In fact, the odds of some deranged person committing an actor of violence against you and your family because you left the cart in the lot are about the same.

First offense: Six months in jail.
Second offense: One year in prison.
Third offense: Death.

I can self govern, I just have some anger problems.

Hell, these days we’re fortunate if there aren’t a bunch of dirty diapers and trash tossed in the parking lot.
Unfortunately, I've seen both tossed into shopping carts.

This one is actually more valid than the leaving you baby in the car excuse. No one picks up their own dishes at a restaurant because they have bus boys who get paid to pick them up.
This. Not sure why people apply a different standard to shopping carts than to everything else. There are people with jobs who do these tasks.

I just returned from a quick trip to whole foods in BR. As I was loading my 2 bags in my car a cultcha rolled up a buggy one spot over from me . There was an empty spot between our cars, she loaded her 3 bags as I got in my car. She proceeded to get in her car when done, leaving her empty buggy in the middle of the empty spot between out cars. I motined to her to roll down her window and asked her are you really leaving your buggy there so someone has to move it to park there? Her 250# cultcha arse says why not. I say well for one its inconsiderate for others. SHe huffs n puffs, gets out saying if I wanted to be the good samaritan I could have moved it in the time it took to ask her what I asked. I reply it's about being a good decent person who is considerate to the rest of society. ol bitch said well your stupid white arse should do it then, leaves it there, gets back in her car and pulls off. As she is doing that an old white dude yells at her about leaving it too........... I just don't understand the thinking of so many of the cultcha folk.

Is that how you feel about garbage too?
The issue is the lazy folks leave these carts in parking places, etc.

Where do bums fit who steal shopping carts for their own use?

I worked for food fair 30 years ago and I hated to close because I had to get everyone of those bad boys and bring them back in . We had over a hundred and they would be so far away from the store it was like people would push them and see how far they would roll.
I always bring mine and a couple more on the way just to help a little. But now they have machines that push them just have to be guided, soft arse world.lol

If I'm headed into the store and someone older than me has a cart about emptied into their vehicle, I'll pace myself and then ask them If I can take their cart back.

I had a Zoom call I had to take while traveling so I pulled into a Walmart parking lot for the call.
I was watching who did and didn’t return carts to the racks. 100% of the blacks didn’t return carts and 10% of the whites didn’t either. The racial makeup of the shoppers was about half and half.
Just an interesting observation I made
