I owned a retail store for years, rude customers were very rare. I showed my employees how much it cost in advertising to get someone to walk in the door, treat them like gold, they are.

Imagine being the manager of a large convenience store.

Being shitty to service workers isnt exclusive to race or class.
The ones with money or the ones who should know better are the worst ones.
My first non-agriculture job was at Church's Chicken. We had a regular named Lee - a huge older black gentleman who was really nice to us. One day, a local doctor was yelling at me because the company had changed the supplier of fried peach pies (which, obviously, I had no control over). Lee was also in the small lobby and quietly told the other customer "You need to quit yelling at him." The yelling stopped LOL.

I imagine that your store had a pretty nice customer base. It is also a different world - rudeness is far more common.

As someone who does rideshare on the side, 80% of customers are totally fine. But it's the 20% who are rude, inconsiderate, and/or come into my car reeking of smoke that make plenty of drivers disgruntled.
I think for far too many customer service and customer service-adjacent jobs, customers think that we're some robots that they can talk to however they want and who don't have feelings.

Business should be allowed to rate customers publicly on Google reviews.
The ride share industry seems to have figured this out. Be rude to drivers and you risk a negative customer rating.

I worked for a fast food chain in high school. To this day, the most stressful and difficult job I’ve ever had.

Yeah, but if you refuse rides to the wrong neighborhoods too often, you get fired.

I think that's rare. I don't take rides to any bad neighborhoods anymore and I haven't heard a word from them. And if they do try to threaten me, I am gonna ask them if they're gonna pay for a new car if I get carjacked.

No wonder everyone here hates you. You act like you are on a mission to prove to everyone what a low life you are.

Family members have reached a whole new level of audacity. Makes me miss covid when no one was allowed in the unit. I said what I said.
I know some family members are bad, but this take is horrid. If any medical professionals expressed this sentiment in real life they should be fired on the spot.

There’s a not insignificant portion of people who take out all of their aggression and anger on the people they have any semblance of authority over, i.e., waiters/servers and customer service personnel.
