Remember being in the National honor society and we would get to skip classes that day and run the games and Would always volunteer to the run the tug of war and get the elementary kids fricking amped up to dirt roll each other . We would jump in on the teams and talk shite

Field day was by far the single best school day of the year.

! I’ll never forget the day i took home the first placed ribbon in the long jump. Father sent our valet, Alexander, to the shopping mall to procure a pair of those enigmatic Nike pumps so I could maximize my air time. I absolutely eviscerated little Timothy Abercrombie and those other Princeton-bound fops, though I must admit I would’ve performed better in the three legged race if not for the unfortunate pairing with the portly Phillip Livingsworth, though my consumption of 10-K may have also contributed, but I digress.

Friend,

It is good that field day provided you with such a fond memory.

Field day, 8th grade in 2000 was our last before we all went to high school.

The one teacher everyone disliked knew she had a target out for her..

They brought out the bucket of water balloons and she felt the wrath of 30 8th grade kids.

We....lit......her......azz......up

Tug O War World Champs

My old high school still does tug of wars to this day. It's the entire high school, typically about 150 vs 150 (maybe more now), and it's done over a river. It's a BFD at the school and the culmination of year-long intramural academic and athletic competitions between the two societies. I was a scrawny nerd, so I contributed very little to our victories, but my team, the Platos, won all four years I was in high school.

Our kids still have it now all the way thru high school. We host about 1/2 dozen of my son's friends every year the night before. Cancelled last year due to the Covid. This year's event coming up next month after spring break.

Dammit Salmon...don't you know this thread was created so all the old guys can say how much better things were in their day and how kids today are soft and can't handle being outside for longer than 5 minutes.

How dare you come in here saying things haven't really changed all that much.

all the schools around here still have Field Day

they make shirts, order pizza and ice cream, have water slides, races, mud pits, etc

its awesome and way better than our Field Day when I was a kid

Good to know that some schools have kept the original spirit of field day.

Field day at my elementary school used to be a blast. But then at some point in 5th or 6th grade, they completely changed it, I'm assuming not to offend the less athletic kids.

Went from being a bunch of sports, races, and athletic-type events to nothing but puzzles and brain teasers. It was a total let-down. It was like "so bascially we're doing schoolwork, but we're doing it outside. Yippee, I guess."

Damn, you had field day quarterly?

Ours was on the second to last day of the school year (effectively the last day, because the real last day was only an hour-ish long goodbye ceremony and a lot of people skipped it.)

I think the last day rivaled it. Clean out your locker and no homework. People tried crazy stuff thinking there would be no consequences... which was fun to watch.

I remember having a stack of different colored ribbons from field day. Maybe the potato sack races.

Seems like we had something like Competition Week.

Could you imagine holding an event at a school today with anything remotely labeled "Competition"?
