The costs of living is very reasonable. And as more people work remotely in the future, it's less important to be in or adjacent to major metropolitan areas (Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, etc.).

The people and the food are awesome.

I have lived in Texas most of my adult life after graduating. I plan to retire in La in a few years. Why? Although Texas is a magnificent state and a great place to live, it ain't Louisiana. Home is home.

Can't wait to get back.

Unfortunately this doesn’t seem to be the case, meet people from especially California who just moved here all the time

“Fun place to visit.
Shitty place to live.”

That should be on the brochure

That’s pretty much all I I’ve got... by most metrics Louisiana sucks but at least the small communities stick together and you can live like a king if you have a decent work ethic.

If you travel to, or live in other states, you'll see just how screwed up Louisiana is compared to other states. I moved away 5 years ago and I can't even fathom moving back there. You don't realize how messed up Louisiana is until you move out of it.

Moving to Louisiana would save about $500,000 in taxes over staying in Illinois for the rest of my career. Private school tuition is less than property taxes are here.

And when I get older, I can move to the Mississippi gulf coast to retire. Mississippi still doesn't tax retirement income.

Litter and idiots that toss their shite all over our roads & by-ways are a HUGE problem.

If it weren't for that litter getting washed down to the coast every hurricane season the coastal erosion would be 1000 times worse. Litter is keeping the southern half of the state from becoming the GOM.

I moved away in 2011.

We are moving back (hopefully) in 2022. Having kids changes things. It's important to be near family. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are the most important amenity to us - more important than commuter trains or hub airports.

Unless you're a little bit different or don't agree with their politics.

I have found that people in Idaho are much colder in terms of hospitality, but give you more respect even if they disagree with you.

Add a decade to your absence from the state for me, and amen.

As long as I have the resources and flexibility to travel when I want and spend summers out west, it's a no-brainer.

Most states have better hunting than us. Including the entire world would be embarrassing

If you have alot of money maybe.

The fishing is solid, but the hunting in Louisiana beats very few. The public opportunities suck and the private opportunities are unrealistically inflated by oil and gas incomes. Do a little traveling and you'll be amazed at the enormous amount of quality hunting, specifically public, that are not in Louisiana.

I won't trash the great state of Louisiana but I will say the single best and most impactful decision of my life was leaving for Colorado

This is what I always tell people. I have great friends and great family. I don’t want my kids to grow up not knowing their cousins or seeing grandparents twice a year.
