NK is a shite hole, surely, but I don't really believe any account I hear, positive or negative. Theres just too much at stake, too much to be gained or lost politically for those involved. For example, any story that comes from a SK outlet is almost certainly just bullshite made up by the KCIA. Like the story about Kim killing his uncle with dogs or with anti aircraft guns. And any story about how it is paradise is just laughable at this point.

Yes. She more than likely exaggerated a lot of of her stories. It is human nature to do such things.

But even the things where people are like "well you wouldn't get executed for watching James Bond, but you might get arrested" are fricking insane.

It's entirely possible that North Korea sucks so much arse that we can't even comprehend how much arse it sucks

Therefore, some western brains (of commies) think it's nonsense

Like I said.. I read a total of one whole book on North Korea so that obviously makes me an expert (sarcasm), but in that one book, the picture it painted was similar to the picture she painted.

Like I mentioned, the part about the outhouse and having to collect their own shite to give to the government for fertilizer, the part about how stories that were told of the Kim family were identical to stories in the bible (they used those stories to make people believe the Kim family were... I guess bigger than life).

That article is quite amusing.

One of my favorite parts:

quote:

When Park was nine, which would have been around 2002, she says she saw her best friend’s mother executed at a stadium in Hyesan. But, according to several North Korean defectors from Hyesan who didn’t want to be identified for fear of reprisal, public executions only ever took place on the outskirts of the city, mostly at the airport, never in the stadium or streets, and there were none after 2000 – the last they recall was a mass execution of ten or eleven people in 1999.

Puhleeeze Yeonmi, everyone knows that all the public executions were done at the airport. What kind of barbarians do public executions at the stadium?

And the last public execution I can remember was in 1999 - or maybe it was 2000. That was when 11 people had a bullet put through their head. But there's NO WAY it could've been in 2002. That's just kooky talk.

and will simultaneously claim North Korean defectors could be lying and therefore their entire story is skewed beyond belief.
Well if she is lying, is her entire story not skewed? Not believing this lady is not saying anything good about North Korea, it just means that we can’t really take any information at all from what she says. As in, one’s opinion on North Korea should not change at all based on her stories(if you think she is a fraud), which if you don’t, I challenge you to listen to 20 minutes of her podcast with JRE.

What that 9 in NK or America?

Evidently right when you are born in NK you are said to be 1 years old. If you are born late in the year.. November, December. You are one, then evidently everyone becomes a year older at the new year... So If you are born on... December 31, on January 1st you are already 2 years old.

She also mentioned a language barrier as an excuse of some of the discrepancies. Which is plausible. But I also do think it’s possible she exaggerated or took on other people’s stories to get herself more attention. She isn’t the first defector after all.

Regardless, North Korea is a bizarre hell hole. I don’t think even China likes them. They only exist because China wants them as a buffer.

She escaped when she was 13. And I believe she is... 28 now? I cannot fathom what it must do to your mind to spend years soaking up tons and tons of information after leaving a place like that as a kid.

This isn't excuse her inconsistencies. But Kids see and remember things a bit differently.

apparently she's said in the past that she burried her dad, but on Rogan she said her and her mother escaped NK without telling him.

If that's the case, nothing she says can be believed.

why is he attacking a wise asian woman with the richness of her experiences? We already know that when some persons of color tell a tall tale they are starting a conversation. Why is this wise asian woman not afforded the same justice?
