I listened to the full Rogan interview. On one hand, I find it hard to believe that Rogan would have brought an imposter on the show. On the other hand, she seemed like she was full of shite at times, especially when Rogan questions her (i.e. "Can that be proven?" was asked a couple times and she kind of laughed it off).

I don't know...

She isn't an imposter the real question is if she embellished or used some stories from others. I have a very easy time believing that rural North Korea could easily be hell on earth.

I did too and her story aside the rants Rogan went on about how the left and the right are now so divided and dug in divided was pretty frightening. I

believe he is correct in that we have given up our liberties so easily in order for one side to claim a "win" that you cannot put that genie back in the bottle.

If people don’t want to listen to the link, her mom says(before the 15 min mark I suggested) that Yeomni Park “didn’t experience anything like that”, when asked about starvation, and then goes on to say that she believes that Yeonmi, “became more aware of the situation in Nortk Korea from coming on this show.” A South Korean show featuring NK defectors. And then her mom goes on to say that her daughter would ask her if the other people were lying about their experiences in North Korea. Mind you, she is sitting right there next to her mom the entire time and doesn’t push back at all.

I thought her story started to sound funny when she said that NK wanted its citizens to starve, so that they would be thinking about food and less about their governance.

More realistically, I'd think this would foment revolution as these people would have everything to gain and nothing left to lose....
But also North Korea has accepted tons of food as aid over the years from western countries including the USA, if they wanted their population to starve they certainly wouldn't show vulnerability on the world stage by accepting food aid.

Yeah, and she said she buried him in the desert. There aren’t any deserts around North Korea but there are in Inner Mongolia. I didn’t find that to be an inconsistency just a twist at the end of her story to jab a knife in through all she’s been through. The impression I got is she got the monster who made her his mistress get her entire family over there and her father died before they crossed over the Gobi Desert. It’s the Chinese she didn’t want to hear her for fear of turning her over to the authorities. I think that story was fairly consistent.

That part is definitely true and shite Mao and Stalin did. No doubt the Kims we’re doing that in the 90s.

But North Korea doesn’t know about the rest of the world. If that happened in China today, yeah they know about the outside world so they wouldn’t take that. North Korea doesn’t though, and people in China know what is going on in North Korea. They know as much if not more than we do.

The upper crust people don’t starve. I 100% believe the lower half of society are left to fend for themselves.

Even the UN says 40% of NK’s population is undernourished.

The 90’s were a horrible time for famine in NK and even last year there was worry Of a big famine.

That communist hell hole is like every communist hell hole. The top half feast on the spoils while the lower half starves.

But somehow America is going to get it right according to history denying lefties.

Yeah, those people will take the food. They’re not going to allow their citizens to know about it though.

Great post. Now I will say I have heard that the gov of NK mislead their people during the time of famine by saying the US was just paying tribute to them. Which is believable considering their authoritarian government, but your point still holds true… if they wanted the populace to starve they wouldn’t have accepted it at all. A literal starving population would be way more likely to rebel. But just look at the evidence and facts of this lady’s Mom completely contradicting everything she says now on South Korean TV… with the person in question sitting right there and not denying anything her mom says.

I have. My point is the upper 1% would get the food and they wouldn’t let the lower 99% know about it. I’m pretty sure Yeonmi would agree with me on that.

its kinda weird that people are trying to poke holes in her story. like hey, public executions stopped in 1999 and only took place at the airport!!!! so theres no way any could have took place in....2000

she probably exaggerated in some instances and may have taken some other people's stories and pass them off as hers which...meh. i bet the same could be true for a lot of public speaking figures. and i wouldnt be surprised to see her timeline inconsistences be boiled down to just general language difficulties
