Better to visit Louisiana than to live in Louisiana.

Question for Those Who Moved Away From Louisiana

quote:

For those of you who have been able to leave Louisiana and move elsewhere, did you find that your life drastically improved when you settled in a new place? Did most things in life get better or stay the same?

That's 2 questions.

You only get one.

Which do you choose?

Moving out of LA is one of the best choices I’ve made. I found my attitude better and it was great to be away from the constant threat of crime.

I go back to New Orleans twice a year and not it feels like a 3rd world country. It can be fun to visit, but the glaring differences can’t be ignored.

I miss it greatly but I don’t ever see myself going back

Still searching for a place that feels more like home. Texas definitely isn’t it

Left Louisiana 6 years ago at 26 years old. Homesick for the first 6 months after I left.

Ended up getting married here and now have a kid and another on the way. Louisiana will always be home but it’s hard to see a situation where we end up back in Louisiana. Louisiana struggles in so many ways. I hate to admit it but life is better here

Upside is just about everything after you get settled

Down side is you have to put the work in day in and day out. No mommy and daddy to wipe you when things get tough.

You’ll be better off for having done it.

Moved to Atlanta, then realized Atlanta is like NBR x1000.

I mean I live in the burbs, so life is much better. I also miss my family.

Yeah, but this thread isn’t about you. OP asked for opinions from those who moved away. Not everything is about you.

I can’t give an opinion that’s not mine, girl. Threads are open to all posters, no?

I know two individuals who moved to colorado (one who posts here).

Both fit the description, both will never admit the thousand miles of distance made their life worse.

One brags on here about his move, brags that his life has improved immensely. His life was shitty here because he pushed anyone away who tried to help him. His life is shitty there for the same reasons.

Thinner cooler air doesn't fix your problems. If anything, it clears your head enough to realize you don't want to be arguing with some high white bitch at the check out who's been lecturing you for 20 minutes about bags. At least sh'anequoi didn't bake her brains out before going into her shift.

Improved greatly financially (I’m talking 5-10x easily) feel moderately safer (still in a big city), but lost my Joie de vivre. Can’t have it all I guess - now that the kids getting older it’s getting better but I got hit with a major gut punch initially - moved and didn’t know anyone, got married, had very young children so can’t barely travel etc. Was a major awakening to true adult life lol

i was never as motivated to want to move as i am now. going on to 40 this year, kids getting into elementary and middle school.
every time we vacation the places we go are just nicer. i used to think it was the effect of being in vacation places, but even on the driver everywhere else is nicer.

it just pisses me off that louisiana can't get its shite together.

It used to be a mild difference, but now it feels like we’re living 10-20 years behind areas that are thriving, and the gap is only growing.

I have lived in Cypress (NW Houston) for 30 years. It feels like I’m stepping back in time when I go home to N La or Baton Rouge, like 20 years backwards, in a bad way.

Yes. Also not from here originally.

Our insurance dropped like 60-70% immediately without changing coverage. The crime rate around us plummeted. The public schools are actually functional. We joined a country club that is affordable. There’s not many neighborhoods in our town that are unaffordable. We have nice restaurants near us and chain options as well so whatever your flavor. Same with local shops + bigger chains. About a 30k person town in the heart of rural America. About 90 minutes from 3 major airports if we need them. An hour from my parents. Roads get paved overnight and we rarely see pot holes. Police officers show up in a matter of minutes if you need to call them. Saw them pull up almost immediately to an accident I witnessed today. Very little trash if any on the side of the road. Very little homeless population. We can use the public parks without fear of harassment. We can walk around our neighborhood and if we were feeling adventurous, probably walk into downtown in about half an hour to 45 minutes. Could drive there in like 5-7. Go the other direction we are in straight farmland with incredible farmers markets.

I’m living in heaven on earth right now baw.

Some things are better. Much better.

But I do miss my family. Even only being only a couple hours away.

In Minnesota they improved. Jessie Ventura became the Governor and basically gave us all our state taxes back. Plus the medical care was much better. No waiting. In fact, if you were late for your appointment by a few minutes they passed you over. Ask me how I know.

The roads were much better as well. The cost of living was much higher but I made more money.

S. Carolina was much more like Louisiana. Lived in a small town and there wasn’t much difference.

How did you find work in a 30K rural town?

Work keeps me from living in the sticks currently.

Moved to rural Colorado. I miss the food and culture but everything else is drastically better.
Insurance wayyyy down
Taxes down
I’m a teacher and the education system is better for students and teachers
Weather better
People are so much nicer. I’m still shocked at how unbelievably pleasant fast food workers are here. Lol

I miss all things LSU, food and family. But life is better
