FTR I am not a veteran. I served during war time but never went overseas while in the reserves.

Grandfather was the same way about WWII

Only thing I ever heard him say about his time in NA, Sicily, Anzio was "Trucks with bodies piled in them heading back to the rear"... He had the most horrified, ghastly look while saying it

Most vets that tell stories about their time in, it’s for laughs. If they are going to talk about trauma, it’s not going to be to impress, and it’s not going to be around a bunch of people that can’t possibly comprehend what they’ve experienced.

I’ve never known anyone that bragged about smoking fools. I’ve known quite a few people who have struggled with it though.

Well, as an OEF vet. We've been out there freezing our asses off, had to maneuver through some of the most deadliest terrain in the world. Some of us have lost friends in some fricked up situation in some remote valley or at home due to suicide. Some of us have had to do terrible things. And then you see some PX ranger, who hasn't done any of that shite, playing dress up and trying to take credit for things they haven't done. I'm not going to throw hands at these guys. But my first instinct isn't going to be to give them a high five for being a fricking liar, either.
