re: Question for the Veterans

A guy I went to high school and hung around with some joined the Navy shortly after I did.
Afterwards we would run into each other occasionally and talk “Navy stories”
After awhile I start hearing from other classmates that he was telling these tall tales about being a Marine Corp sniper,how many Viet Cong he killed etc.His daughter came to work at hospital I worked at and she was saying the same thing so he was lying to his own children.
Crazy thing is he was in the Brown Water Navy patrolling rivers in Viet Nam which was dangerous as hell,they got into some pretty heavy combat.
I called him out on it and his story was the Marine Corps brass heard stories about what a good shot he was so they pulled strings to have him transferred to the M.C as a sniper.
Stupid for him to try and tell me such bullshite,I-knew it doesn’t work like that.He would have had to complete his enlistment in the Navy and then join the M.C,go through their bootcamp and apply for sniper training.

Later on his son joined the M.C,I ran into him one day and asked about his son,told me he was a Sgt.Major embedded in Syria calling in air strikes against Al-Queda.
I googled his son,he was indeed a Sgt Major but he was the Command S.M.for a Marine Corps air wing in Arizona.Pretty impressive accomlishment for his son.
I have always been curious if his son in the MC found out the truth about his dad.
