I was acting 11b straight out of high school. Never saw combat but trained for it. I would never tell anyone I saw combat. Just a pride thing with me. I did training but never used it

Dad spent 1969 in Vietnam, after doing ROTC at LSU. Never spoke of it when I was growing up. Now that he is in his 80s, actually talks about his experience. He was imbedded in an ARVN unit. As the only American, he called in artillery and air strikes when they engaged the enemy. Prolly feels a bit guilty. Little bro served in Afghanistan and Iraq w 82nd Airborne. Gets a PTSD check, while working 50 hrs a week as a NP. He never talks about his experience either.The guys who wear the Vietnam Veteran hats were prolly REMFs.

I served during peacetime. I’m totally fine with not having went to war. I consider myself fortunate. Some of the guys I served with were killed in Iraq a few years later.
