I would counter with Thomas Sowell, but I don't think either pick is wrong.

Frederick Douglass. His conversion from an America-hater to a flag-waving patriot was remarkable. Before the Civil War, he despised the USA bc of slavery.
But After the Emancipation Proclamation, he saw that the country COULD change, lost his understandable bitterness overnight, and championed the USA the rest of his long life.

I don’t think this is fair. He admired the Constitution and Declaration of Independence as soon as he read them, but was rightly pissed when he read “All Men are Created Equal” that this wasn’t spread to his people. He said this country made a promise to people like him, and they were betraying it. He just hated the blind hypocrisy of it.

I’ll invite the three ignorant arse clowns who downvoted the Frederick Douglas submission to make their reasons known, or otherwise accept the title of arse Clown.

Justice Clarence Thomas

He came to speak at UF Law School when i was there. My roommate, who was (and still is) a huge liberal, was one of 10 students who won the chance to go eat dinner with Clarence Thomas. My roommate left the dinner a huge fan of his despite the political differences

Certified badass. Honestly Frederick Douglass should have been President of the United States, but that didn’t happen for unfortunate obvious reasons. He is my favorite American in general. Own his entire works, so I am a super fan of him to say the least. He is the honorary Founding Father who was not around for the signing.
This is the correct answer. He is the biggest badass in American history. Do yourselves a favor and read his 3rd autobiography. It's unreal to me that there hasn't been a major biopic about it.

Can you please provide a few of the best ones?
His 3rd autobiography is a great place to start (he updated them as he kept on living).

I promise you - it will invoke every emotion in you that you can muster.
