I’m not a fan of tattoos, but no problem with people getting them. Just think they’re going to look silly on a lot of people when they’re 80 years old, especially the women.

I already have billboard fatigue.
Why would I want to wear a billboard on my body?

I have a real thing against something that trashy people do. Almost all trashy people have tattoos so I inherently hate them

I got a tattoo on my calf when I was 19 with my best friend. I started to regret it a few years later, but then my friend was killed in a crazy incident. (He was driving his police car in a funeral procession for a fallen officer when a tree fell on his car and killed him)
After that, I did not regret having the tattoo. It means a lot to me now and I'm glad I have it. I am 52 and this is the only tattoo I have and I do not see myself getting another one.

Studies have shown that 97% of tattoos look the same on every person....like trash.

In the video they mention an internalization of interests rather than an externalization, that's me. I don't have a need to display my thoughts, loves, losses, whatever. The more visible tats someone has, the more that person comes across to me as attention-seeking. This then increases when you get into various body modifications.

I'd be more concerned at looking like an attention whore at 30-40. Most people will be dead by 80 anyway.

There is an entire generation of young men who will never get to see a beautiful young lady naked who doesn't have a gross tattoo. I feel sorry for them.

quote:We're on the younger end of GenX and live fairly comfortably. I'd rather buy a box of cigars for accomplishing something than get a tattoo signifying my accomplishment. My wife had a small clover leaf tattoo on her shoulder when we met and she was only going to add Olympic Rings if she qualified (she didn't and then retired to start our family). She's added 3 in the past decade. Despite symbolizing something, I hate them. (After her aunt/mother figure died, our kids & their opposite personalities, a year ago after benching 350.)
How little do you earn that the thought of paying for a tattoo is going to break you?
We had made a bet decades ago that I'd get one if she won a Big Ten championship. She won multiples and I still haven't paid up on the bet (and never will). I'm not an overly religious man but it is the biggest reason I don't. I do not need to alter the way God created me to express myself.
ETA: My youngest son get a Bible verse on his forearm on the day he turned 18. His TBI almost cost him his life and it was fitting.

And then there are people who just view all of it as a bad idea.
I do not want toxic chemicals in my body which usually are arranged in "art" which I would scrub off the bathroom wall.

Gen X is the generation that started the tattoo explosion. What are you talking about?

Seems like most people regret tattoos and either laser them off or get another one to cover up the one they don't like anymore.
