What’s the rule? If you have a family member that had it, whatever age they were when they were diagnosed you need to go 10 years before that?

For anyone delaying it, I had my first a year ago. Let me tell you, it was actually enjoyable in the weirdest way. You have NO idea that it happened to you and you’ll get the best sleep of your life. The prep for it isn’t that bad either, regardless of how dramatic people make it sound.

My uncle died of colon cancer a few years ago. He never had a colonoscopy. Just make the damn appointment

This^^

I've heard it said, "No one who has ever been diagnosed with a terminal illness ever said 'Boy I'm glad I put off getting that checked out.' "

I got my first one done a couple months ago. As others said, you are out and you get good sleep. They wheeled me back, put the IV in and said "you ready?" I watched as she squeezed the syringe and I was out before she finished. In what felt like a few seconds, I was back awake, but it had been about 45 minutes.

I had one small pollyp which he removed. He said I need to come back in 3 years which kinda sucks.

Wife had hers a couple years ago. Six hours passed and she was bleeding, trip to the emergency room followed. Doctor had knicked something with the probe on the way out. What should have been a procedure covered 100% by insurance turned into a $15,000 stay in the hospital and a second procedure. Of course insurance paid most, but deductible was still around $2500.

It isn't that bad. Just don't do the mix from the Dr. Most know do the Miralax thing. 4 docolax, then every 15 min you drink a dose of miralax mixed with lime gatorade 8oz at a time and 8 times. then you take 4 more docolax. Follow it all with lots of water.

Your getting down votes, but this is basically what my doctor issued for prep.

yeah, that must be SOP for polyps. that's what he told me but I think I waited 7. still clean, though.

I don't know your insurance situation, but a lot of BCBS won't pay for the 3 yr check up. Was shocked they paid at 7. It has to do with how it's coded, I think.

Do it. Prep isn't as bad as people might think (it's unpleasant, but temporary). You get a great sleep, and you might find something that needs early intervention.

My friend is an oncologist in South La and he said the amount of colon cancer he sees in young people is astounding. I have family history so I’ll be getting one as soon as I’m eligible.

Had one at 37 to follow up on another issue. Found a polyp too big to remove during colonoscopy, ended up in surgery 3 weeks later to have part of my colon removed. They treat all surgeries as cancerous out of caution, was blessed that it came back non-cancerous.

Other side of the coin, if I would have waiting until 45 to have mine, very likely would have been cancerous. Colon cancer is happening more often and younger, my experience is bite the bullet and go early just to be sure.

I'll have them as often as doctor says to ensure I get to see my girls grow up and get married.

I posted all this for one reason. If you are over 45 years of age, get that colonoscopy done ASAP. It could be a lifesaver.

I will. Thank you, and best wishes.

I turned 45 this past summer and my doctor recommended the cologuard….I ended up doing it right before Christmas. Came back negative and I believe you are supposed to follow up with another test in 3 years if I read it correctly. I will probably do the colonoscopy at that time just to be on the safe side.

I want say thanks to everyone who started and has kept this thread going. If nothing else, by keeping it on the first page for an extended time it served as a reminder to do it and helped put my mind at ease when the time came.

Sounds dumb, but I wish I could get one done before I turn 40. Know of multiple people that died around 45 of colon cancer.

IDK of any rule but then again I am not a medical professional.

My Mother got colon cancer and died because of it. Early detection may have saved her life.

I have a couple of good friends whose mother died because of colon cancer.
I know several people who were diagnosed with colon cancer and died because of it.

A family history would definitely be a reason to get screened.

The thing is that younger folks are getting diagnosed with it, people in their 30s and even 20 somethings.

I would say know the early signs, which can be found with a simple Internet search.
Eat a good diet with lots of vegetables and fruits. Avoid processed foods and sugars.

Had mine in 2020 (45). Said come back in 10 years…..

Had testicular cancer in 2006….. cancer is a bitch. Just follow your doctors instructions

As far as colon cancer, I sat next to a retired truck driver in chemo. He had colon cancer and was just buying a little more time. Felt lucky even though I was going through my own treatment
