State law says-

Wipers ON, Lights ON

Common sense says-

Hazards OFF. I know there are the hazards on defenders on this board, so please answer one question. If you are driving with your hazards on, how am I supposed to differentiate you from a vehicle that is stalled in the travel lane? FYI, hazards are designed to be activated when a vehicle is not moving to notify other drivers to go around. If I am approaching and see hazards, I am supposed to initiate action to avoid your vehicle. If a bunch of cars are driving with hazards on and I don't initiate avoidance action, what happens when I come up on a vehicle that is stalled? You people are crying wolf and causing wrecks.

When I see hazards I think stopped car. Worse is blinkers don't work with hazards so you can't indicate intent.

The real best thing for visibility is a rear fog light. Which is one rear brake light on all the time. German cars have this.

How many wrecks have been caused by hazards on in a near blinding downpour? I'd venture to say almost none.

Don't forget to throw your empty beer cans out the window so you don't incriminate yourself.

Also, if you aren't comfortable enough to move at a reasonable speed in line with the other cars - please pull over. Running up on a car going much slower than everyone else and having to put on the brakes in a driving rainstorm is very dangerours

How many does it take then? Answer the question I posed, how do I differentiate your hazards from the ones on the stalled car? And the point about your turn signals not functioning with hazards on is a great point as well. Curious to hear your thoughts on this.

That is a pet peeve of mine when idiots drive down the road with their hazard lights flashing. If you're too afraid to drive if it's raining, then don't, and let someone else who knows how to drive safely do it for you.

If I'm going down the highway and see hazard lights flashing ahead of me, I'm immediately thinking something is wrong, or they're broke down, but don't be a fool and drive with them flashing.

And you would be correct. Either the car is stalled on side of the road or there is a driver ahead that can’t properly operate his vehicle in the rain. Either way something is wrong

I'm immediately thinking that there's some idiot up ahead of me who's driving with their hazards on. I see that far more often than people actually pulled over with them on.

If torrential downpour and low visibility, hazards on.

Well of course they should be on when you're pulled off the road because you don't have the skill to drive in the rain.

Thank you for mentioning visibility. There's a gentle rain and then there's a cloud drops its load rain. We get both. When visibility is less than the length of a football field? When visibility is less than the stopping distance of most non-commercial vehicles? (Same as in heavy snow, but snow dumps speedsters in ditches with softer landings).

How about dense fog?

Yes. All forms of low visibility I’m turning hazards on.

You driving to the beach baw? Hazards are a staple of I-10 Mississippi and Alabama culture.

We were driving to the beach last month and the rain was blinding. My girlfriend turned the hazards on while I was driving and I turned them off and was like what the frick are you doing. Then I dropped some knowledge.

You probably cruise in the left lane too.

Just give it up. You'll never make it across the new bridge in the rain.
