Only counts if your silly butt went to solar and wind. To account for the stupidity, you need to control the masses.

Hmmm

Ahhh......the technology of convenience will hang every one of us. Or, at least make us hot and sweaty.

China too. When I was over there in November I froze my dick off and in May sweated my arse off. They didn’t allow you to turn on the heat until the end of November and air the end of May. We absolutely can’t let this happen.

As opposed to rolling blackouts?
The issue isn’t oversight. The issue is lack of energy production and inability to build anything to upgrade the grid due to “environmental impacts”.

We give government more of our money than at any other point in our history. Yet, everything is still crumbling and falling down around our ears. On average, state for state, around 15-20% of people work for government at some level, Local, State, or Federal. That does not include people employed by companies who exist on government contracts.

We are, as a people, beholden to the government like no other time in our history. It takes more of our money, it employs more of us, and it seems to be doing less and less for us as the years go on. Fun times are ahead!

So, just an fyi, like all demand response programs, this one would be voluntary. You don’t have to sign up for it. For various reasons, including safety, a participant in the program can override any change the energy company makes to the demand response enabled product. The bill is to allow the energy companies the ability to offer the program. It is not a bill to authorize energy companies the ability to override your stat without your consent. An energy company would get sued immediately if they adjusted anything in your home without consent.

To the posters that are scared of smart home devices, a smart thermostat can dramatically lower your electric usage. Dumb stats are for dumb people. In fact, you decrease the life expectancy of your a/c system by not using smart thermostats. But, don’t worry, Mr. A/C man will gladly take your money as well. You’re losing money each month to utilities and costing yourself repairs quicker.

ETA: I won’t sign up for the demand response programs. I’ll ride out a blackout or brownout first.

Sounds like an episode of black mirror. I will happily install a bypass switch if they did that shite where I live.

Hold up, you sleep with the thermostat on the same temperature you set it to during the day?

I know how to change a thermostat, and probably leave them with the impression that they have control.

Until it creeps into control no matter what.

I learned at a very young age that people will keep taking and taking and taking as long as you let them. One of the pros of growing up around junkie family members.
