If I remember correctly (I WISH I had kept all my stuff!!) it was based on the idea of causation vs something from nothing and he tried to reconcile the tenets of his own religion to make a peaceful world. Although it came out more like support for survival of the fittest, I meant it to be a kickstart to the reader to wonder where the hell did everything start and to question their religious beliefs.

But on the other hand, a friend pointed out that it looked like I was promoting the idea that without divine intervention everything goes to shite.

It was rough, amateurish, and unpolished, and if anything I was more focused on my desire to write in the style of Evan Hunter, a.k.a. Ed McBain.

I think the origin question is a 4 dimensional concept. Time is difficult to grasp and is something that we may never fully understand.
Creation/big bang are moments in the infinity loop which dont answer your question, what happend before. My guess is that we are in some kind of cassette player and whenever the cassette finishes, something presses stop and turns it over so that it can be replayed again. This repeats indefinitely.

You should consider what it means to be alive. Are we designed by the universe? Are we supposed to invade solar systems, galaxies, the universe?

For Creationists they face a similar conundrum: so, a creator created everything when he spoke it to existence. But, where did all matter and mass come from? Nothing? Right? Out of thin air?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
John 1:1-3

The Word of God is a real, tangible thing.

I find it interesting that light itself is unobservable, only illumination is observable. Light must strike (make contact with) an object for us to see it. We can't see light, only the object that light strikes. Like light, the Word must be heard for it to take effect. I don't know which person of the trinity said, "Let there be light", but it had to be heard to make it happen. And the only ones around was the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. So I'm thinking God the Father said, "Let there be Light" and both the Son and Holy Spirit heard it, and there was light.

You must remember, we are talking about an all powerful, unapproachable, incomprehensible God. Trying to peek behind his curtain is foolishness.

Edited and clarified it because I originally wrote this a 2:30 am.

you're making a few assumptions that flaw your thinking

1. a god exists
2. matter was created

why do you find it easier to believe that an infinitely complex being such as an all powerful god exists and has always existed, than a relatively simple thing like matter has not always existed.

Man has already made something from nothing. A few times. There is energy around us. A god wouldnt have needed to make Earth, people, animals etc.Just the energy needed to start the process.

Eventually we will get the answer how all this started. I'll probably be long gone but eventually we will learn exactly how the universe was created and it wont be because a god comes and tells us. If he/it exists, its not in any book.

The the expansion of universe can be traced back to milliseconds after a singularity begins expanding. What was around before that is not known. I guess that's proof that creationism is real because they have a divinely inspired book written by shepherds and fisherman that says so.

I think the biblical version of creationism is ridiculous. There could have been a creator but the 7 day thing is just silly

I think it might not be correct to think of a "before" the Big Bang. Time was created at that moment as well as space, so there wouldn’t actually be a before.

This is the hole in your argument. The answer to this one question is that it doesn't. Therefore there was something already there. How it got there is another question altogether. The debate is about how what already existed turned into what it is now. We know that the earth is roughly 4.3 billion years old...

Im all on board the BB train, but not naive enough to think it was an accident or random event. It was purposeful.

So God had a plan to stir up a miasma of superheated gas and plasma so that billions of years in the future one infinitesimal piece of the resulting explosion would support human life and one miniscule percentage of humanity would be his "chosen people"?

Now remember, because God is infinite and omnipresent, it's vital that you not masturbate if you're an ancient Jew, but despite His omnipresence, he left the lid off the pot, leading to the eventual heat death of the universe and all existence within. Maybe he has a train to catch billions of years from now, and that was more convenient than a cosmological egg timer.

God is the alpha omega beginning and end. He exists outside of time and space so it's impossible for us to grasp the concept.

This is just another version of "we don't know."

Better odds that a greater being (God, Creator, etc.) made/designed all this than it happened and developed by pure chance.

The problem is trying to analyze what is outside our space-time continuum by observing what is inside the continuum and believing that what is outside is similar. We can detect 4 dimensions, 3 spatial dimensions and time. Theoretical physicists contend that there are 11 dimensions that comprise the Universe. We have no idea what the 7 unseen dimensions are, but it is likely that they are responsible for the 4 dimensions in which we live, giving shape and form to ourselves and everything that we can see. The concept of "matter" and "time" are a human concepts, based on partial knowledge, i.e. what we can see and experience.

It is possible, perhaps likely, that a consciousness beyond the observable universe initiated the event we call the Big Bang, the event that created the Universe and everything in it including ourselves, from nothingness. So, the question remains, who or what is the Big Banger?
