I’ve traveled for work a lot in the past.
During one hotel stay, my door was opened in the middle of the night because the front desk gave my room to a new patron. I said something quickly enough that he didn’t even have time to enter the room. I put the latch on the door for the rest of the night.
Going to a game in Baton Rouge, I was given a room key, and upon opening the door saw luggage and clothing on the beds. Same deal, they gave me an occupied room.

I stayed in a crappy Patel Inn in rural Texas where the latch was busted off. And the door shook every time a truck went by. Didn't sleep much that night.
Pretty much sworn off budget inns, even when traveling alone.

The front desk has that device that can unlock the deadbolt from the outside. I had to get them to use it one time when the lock malfunctioned.
But I’ve never been in a hotel room that didn’t also have an old school latch or chain on the inside that can’t be tampered with from the outside.
Some of y’all need to learn how to lock your doors.

I saw how to disable the door lock on TikTok. It was super helpful when I forgot my keys in an air bnb.

Years ago I worked for a major hotel chain and the hotel can program a key that over rides the deadbolt and is used just like a key card.
The security bar can be bypasses in about 5 seconds by a tool. Open door slide tool in and close door open door again and tool keeps security bar from engaging.
No hotel is going to put measures in place they can’t overcome. For that reason it can and does get in wrong hands.

If someone busts in my hotel room I just hope they’re ready for violence and full eye contact watching me masturbate. And I’m not picky about the order we do those.
