Another Nevada ghost town in the making

quote:

For years, the desert town of Primm was the sort of place that people stopped at on the long drive between California and Las Vegas.

The final hotel and casino still operating at the Nevada border resort has just announced that it’s shutting down this summer, reported by 8 News Now, effectively turning the once-busy gambling stop of Primm into America’s latest ghost town.

Primm Valley Resorts reportedly confirmed to workers that operations there will end on July 4. Staff living at the nearby Desert Oasis Apartments were also told that they must all move out by July 6 after their leases were all terminated.

Alongside Primm Valley Resorts, several nearby properties owned by Primadonna Company LLC are also shutting their doors for good. That includes the Primm Center and Flying J truck stop located along Interstate 15.

Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino had already been scaled back significantly last year. In July 2025 it stopped operating as a full-time casino and switched to an events-only setup linked to concerts at the Star of the Desert Arena.

Primm’s other semi-famous hangout – Whiskey Pete’s Hotel & Casino – shut down entirely in December 2024.

If you have ever driven it, you would know those towns between L.A. and Vegas are already poorer and more methed up than any small town in the South. This is going to make it much worse. That's if they don't turn into ghost towns altogether.

The Bonnie and Clyde car that got shot up in Louisiana was/is on display there.

That’s all I got about Primm

We just drove through there a few weeks ago on our way to L.A. for a weekend with family. Primm is already looking abandoned and starting to look creepy.

The truck stop and Casino are like 80% of the town. There's nothing else there. It's only like 30 minutes farther to go to Vegas though.

I understand living in Primm close to the casinos if you worked there, but who is living in Baker, CA and why?

My hand on a Bible I ask that question every time we drive through Baker. Who TF lives here and why would you do that?

The place was a huge ripoff anyway. Horribly overpriced gas, food, and hotels.

My guess is enough people got tired of getting fleeced and stopped going there.

Stopped through there many years ago and had not thought about it until reading this. Figured that place would have been boarded up long before 2024.

Since it’s about to be a dilapidated ghost town someone should buy the whole town and just make it into a badass Fallout LARP site with paintball

I stopped off in Primm to get gas. Once. Never again.

For some people it’s because no one else is there.

There were 2 plans floated for the area of Primm, let's see which one pans out. The 1st was building an over flow airport just outside of Vegas to handle mostly cargo shipments. The 2nd one was building a HUGE warehouse-holding-distribution area just on the Nevada side of the border.

The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest container port in the USA. Train tracks already are in place near Primm. By loading the containers on trains and shipping to Primm helps alleviate some traffic. And it's only about 2 hours to the start of the 40 fwy in Barstow bypassing all the LA congestion.
