RIP41

Drank one down in your honor.

All the other stuff is on me, I'll have to answer for later.

He hung around for his family longer than I expected after his wife passed away. Long enough to be at his granddaughter’s wedding. I admire him. He was a good man. Sympathies and strength to his family. They got to have his wisdom for a long time.

He walked out of a Clancy novel.

The fact that he took the SNL version of him with class was a show of character.

They made him a nerd, but his life was amazing.

I remember being a kid and him campaigning at the Maravich Assembly Center on LSU's campus. They dropped him from the ceiling on a rope, which I thought was really cool. He said something along the lines of "We were driving down fraternity row and all the guys were lined up yelling 'Four more years!' and Barbara quietly said 'Honey, they're yelling 'Four more BEERS!'"

quote:

Not a great President,

Actually he's one of the best foreign policy Presidents we've ever had.

The Soviet Union was collapsing, the Berlin wall was coming down, eastern Europe was anything but stable. It was a completely dangerous world that could've gone to complete shite if not for his steady hand. WW 3 was possible if we were not careful.

For example, the Soviet Union was broke and couldn't afford to dismantle all those nukes they were getting rid of and they were going to be forced to sell them to terrorists and countries that are clearly not good actors. But President Bush and Secretary Baker offered to pay to dismantle them and thus reduce our own stockpile to the same levels as well.

Bush 41 kept the world secure in a period of absolutely dangerous uncertainty and we're all poorer without his presence in this world.

I don’t disagree with your assessment. But let’s never forget his hesitation to get involved in the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. It took Maggie Thatcher providing a “successful backbone transplant” to get him to join the UN in diving Iraq from Kuwait.
