If you are a productive and dedicated player, you have nothing to fear.

Walk in this am and own it. Go talk to your boss. Own it. Say you are going to get some help to figure out why you have made mistakes.

I had a guy do $35,000 of damage to a machine a few weeks ago. He called me and started the conversation “I am just calling to let you know that I enjoyed working here, but after what just happened, you are going to fire me, and I accept that”

His value to me is more than $35,000. He still works here.

No! They’ll think you have mental or substance abuse issues.

Just own the uncharacteristic mistakes.

We all make mistakes on occasion if you’ve worked long enough. As someone said, own it, apologize, then ensure it doesn’t happen again, and let your boss know you are taking steps re same. I find as I am nearing retirement and work is vastly increasing from all angles, I’ll put the brakes on and say hang on, let me breathe so I can think this task through. Good luck, and give us an update. Employers know when you are valuable and we are all human in the end.

Prayers to you my friend. I work offshore on a drillship. 30 years in and one good screw up and I'd toast also. Very stressful. Life is short and you'll recover !

I guess there’s pitfall with every job but there’s a couple at my place of employment. The saying isn’t “if” you’ll make the mistake but “when”. What’s done is done, like others said own it, tell the truth and they will look at you much more favorably than if you try and cover it up. Good luck

If your boss is a Democrat, blame Trump, you'll get a raise. Seriously, hope it went well for you, 28 years is a lot of time and loyalty. I was the guy that had to make these decisions for a medium sized company, occasionally a loyal, long-term employee has some screw-ups, termination would be the last option.

My very first boss ever had this impressive wall of degrees and certificates but slap in the middle was a little crayon colored picture that said "mistakes are prove your trying"

Unless it's negligence, shite happens

I know frickall about your company, situation, or mistake, but from an owner's perspective, I've had some long-term guys make big mistakes over the years. It happens. As long as they've owned it and it isn't a pattern, we've been good. We take the L, do what's right for the customer, and move on.
