Edited…I had typed a wall of text but thought better about some of the info I included.
Basically I screwed up at work and may get fired tomorrow. Was just needing to vent but please keep my in your prayers. Don’t really want to lose 28 years with my company and have to start over at 53
**Update…First, thank you all for your supportive words. We all like to rib each other a good bit on this site, myself included. But it is good to see genuine heartfelt support when others are truly going thru some challenges. We see it often when posters mention health issues or other life problems. So again, thank you.
Sat with my GM first thing this morning. Didn’t make any excuses and explained how I fully appreciated how my mistakes affect our location, our profitability, and the position I also put him in with regards to having to answer to our GVP. He told me the fact that I was there first thing owning it and not making excuses and that I obviously understood the weight of the error, coupled with my overall track record justifies that I am where I need to be. We discussed the issue, what happened to cause it, what we need to do moving forward to make sure it didn’t happen again and that was it. Back to work. LOL…he did say he took a pretty good arse chewing from the GVP but over the years I had contributed to plenty enough “atta boys” to offset one bad arse chewing.

Sounds like you are good at what you do and can recognize when you have made a mistake. You will bounce back.

As long as you didn’t get someone pregnant or say the N word, you’ll be alright

Thanks brother. I always thought I was pretty good but have made a lot of uncharacteristic and sloppy mistakes last year or two. I used to have a very keen eye for details and now not so much. Nothing has changed in my personal life that is distracting or more stressful. I actually am thinking about maybe getting some cognitive testing done. I do have Alzheimer’s in my family. My grandmother suffered from it but it didn’t really manifest until her late 70’s and she lived to 90. My dad is 74 and is starting to show some signs. I’m only 53 so I wouldn’t think that would be it but who knows.

Perhaps you forgot that this isn’t the OT Lounge?

I’ve been there. It’s easier to look back on it 2 years later. I jumped on top of it quick and somehow I maneuvered my way out of it with humility. Sounds like you’re doing the same. Good luck!

Been there myself. Messed up big time about 10 years back. Stupid mistake. Owned it, but couldn’t escape the consequences. Looking back, the mistake still bothers me. Truth be told, I was looking to leave, but on my terms. Fortunately I fell into the best job I’ve ever had and am happier than ever. It will work out.

Whatever happens, you'll be ok. Whatever road you take or are forced to take, you'll find happiness and prosperity. Please try to keep that in mind.

I was in this boat a couple months ago. Get your testosterone checked. Not saying this is that, but it won’t hurt to check and lack of concentration and brain fog are a couple symptoms of low T. I’m sure you will be fine, but saying a prayer for you anyway.

Happened at work by a coworker. Jumped 4 levels of management and sent email to the owner of the company. Nothing happened although the guy's first level manager never forgave him. He's still here 8 years later.
Just stand behind what you said

Did you put cheese on someone's burger when they asked for no cheese ?

Tell everyone what you did. Don’t lie about any of it either.
Don’t start compounding problems with this attitude about what you did. You’re only kidding yourself.
Why didn’t you think better of what you did, before you did it, that got you into this mess?

So NOT tell anyone at work this. You will be let go.

Very smart coworker once told me if you aren’t messing up you aren’t doing a damn thing. Found this to be the truth after 38 years at current job.
No way not to make mistakes and best thing to do is to own it and learn from it.
