The problem is six figures now vs 2020 pre-COVID.

Before COVID, I was quite comfortable. My salary hasn't kept up with inflation even with small adjustments.

I don't have any debt, live within my means, but everything is 35 percent more expensive so your money doesn't go nearly as far.

I’m sure they’re not living beyond their means or anything….

Maybe that 84 month loan on a unreliable Ford Super Duty that you don't need was a dumb idea.

And so was that boat that you use 3 times a year.

Don't get me started on poor people and their pets.

For some it doesn't work. For some it does. Saying it is a dumb take for everybody relegates you to the retard pile.

6 figures 15 years ago felt like you made it. Money to do what you want, when you want while still saving and sitting in cash.
6 figures now and your not starving or struggling but you definitely paying attention to what you buy. Retirement and all that still being done, but no new cars, no family vacations, no sitting on big cash savings.
amazing what happened in that short time span.

Problem is the cost of health insurance premiums if you have to use the marketplace, auto insurance for teen drivers, property taxes, and homeowners insurance depending on your locale. I have been crushed in those areas. Mainly the ACA insurance has zapped a good portion of my disposable income. It takes discipline to put money aside these days and avoid the lifestyle creep. I have to treat savings like another bill I have to pay.

Quite true. I took out my gallbladder just last week after watching it on Snapchat.

Of my 5 cars, only one is financed. Carrying minimum liability is not much cheaper and exposes me to getting sued. No one on my insurance has as much as a speeding ticket.

I certainly hope you’re not complaining about the cost of living while owning 5 cars.

Well then they need to do what it takes to live a better life. Want to be an engineer? Go get an engineering degree. Want to be a doctor? Go to medical school. Want to be a corporate executive, put in the time, do what it takes, and earn it throughout your career. Don’t have the ‘I do my job’ from home mentality.

Nothing entitles you to a safe neighborhood, 3000 sq ft home, living in a downtown popular city, driving a reliable $60k vehicle, eating out at restaurants, etc. The overall entitlement in this country is out of control.

Don’t want to pay premium for home, auto, health insurance? Make risk adverse decisions and live a risk adverse lifestyle and pay minimum amounts. Risk adverse decisions and lifestyles are free.

Leaves $2,390.00 "a month" for food and entertainment, ain't nobody starving on that.

I could agree if that's all the expenses you have. What about kids (college too), do you have water, garbage, how about home insurance, property taxes, etc. etc. etc....

My wife and I combined don't even make six figures. We still live in the same home we bought in 2006, neither of us have driven a brand new vehicle and we buy older unlocked phones. My wife has an Ulta credit card she uses for points but it's paid off every month but other than that, no debt. We know our place and what we're worth.

i agree

im just saying people do not want to live like its even 1992 anymore. They want to live off 1 income but they do not want to live in a 1500 older home from the the 90s(equivalent to 60s), they dont want 1 vehicle or if they have 2...one that is old as dirt and just a work truck. they dont want to have no cable, internet, etc

they dont want to live like 1972 but they want all the perks of living like its 1972

buying power of $100k is definitely not what it used to be but so many folks making $100k are in massive debt out of want, not necessity

Health insurance to cover a wife and kids when you’re self employed will completely wreck your budget. Hell, it was a good chunk before Obamacare. These days it’s atrocious.
