Police raided the home Thursday of a New Jersey couple who have been ordered by a judge to appear in court to explain what happened to the $400,000 they raised online for a homeless Good Samaritan.

Footage taken from the scene showed a shiny, black BMW car being towed away from the Bordentown property owned by Katie McClure and Mark D’Amico. Other videos showed D’Amico hitting golf balls off the lawn surrounding the home and ABC6 reported bags of items being loaded into a law enforcement vehicle.

Burlington County said a "search warrant was executed early this morning by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Florence Township Police Department at the residence of D'Amico and McClure in connection with a criminal investigation into the Johnny Bobbitt matter."

quote:

Superior Court Judge Paula Dow said the day before that McClure and D’Amico must show up in court next week for a deposition in a suit filed by Bobbitt over the whereabouts of the hundreds of thousands of dollars raised for him via GoFundMe, according to Fox 29.

Well it's theft from those who've donated to the fund. Heard on the news this am that Go Fund me has some type of guarantee and the homeless/formerly homeless guy WILL get his money.

Also heard a clip of the judge telling the couples lawyer that she didn't want to hear from him anymore and ordered his clients be in court on a designated date.

I bet money they will try to say a lot of the money used was for "rent" on the land they allowed him to stay on, in a camper they purchased for him.

seen several places where they might try fraud and money laundering just to drive the point home

Does this couple remind anyone of the couple from S1 of Better Call Saul who stole money from the treasury and then went out and spent it without thinking it would catch up to them and were in denial about going to jail for it

This might go down as one of the worst decisions ever. I have no idea what they thought would happen after they put themselves in the public like they did.

I'm torn on this one, fully anticipate the homeless guy to blow all the $$ or kill himself, but the couple are scum and some awful people if they thought they were going to get away with it.

I am guessing they had no idea they would raise so much in the GoFundMe.

She bought a brand new BMW immediately after they got control of the GoFund me cash but swear they used their own money for it. Keep in mind they can barely pay rent before this deal and she had to borrow $20 from the homeless guy for gas.

The cops towed the BMW away today as evidence.

I mean the money was donated to him, who cares what he does with it.

Is it theft from the ones who donated or theft from the homeless man? Fraud against the ones who donated and theft from the homeless man? Just curious.

Either way, hope they end up without their home as a result of this. I am guessing my tax money will be paying for their 6'x 9'.

I have a feeling the court is going to make a big example out of them. They want to set a strict precedence since it is likely we see more and more cases like this going forward.

He's entitled to "blow" this money. I doubt he will kill himself because of this though. Probably was raised poorly, served in the military, got out and didn't know how to manage, or chose not to. If he's made it this far, he's not going to off himself. So what the dude turns to drugs and blowing money, it's his life.

This will be a landmark case that will test this whole gofundme thing. I'm sure some attorney will argue that they had just as much rights to the loot as the guy they collected it for. There was no written agreement that they had to give him all of the money. I don't even see this as fraud because they did give him a good chunk as I recall. It'll be interesting to see it play out.

I'm cynical and believe nearly 90% of those GoFundMe fundraisers to support X causes are fake.
