This will be a landmark case that will test this whole gofundme thing. I'm sure some attorney will argue that they had just as much rights to the loot as the guy they collected it for. There was no written agreement that they had to give him all of the money. I don't even see this as fraud because they did give him a good chunk as I recall. It'll be interesting to see it play out.
On a site note, IWHI
Except people donated to the gofundme under the guise that the money will be going to support that guy. There was no caveat that the money would also be utilized to create a lavish lifestyle at a 16/1 clip for the couple creating the gofundme.
If i receive money for you from something and don't do what I promised you, that's not legal

From what i read they initially gave the guy 40,000 and he blew it in 2 weeks on drugs.\
That's what they are claiming which sounds like total bullshite once you look into what all they were up to immediately after setting up the gofundme.
It's pretty clear they decided to say frick the homeless vet and took the money to party balls, buy a car, and support the husband's gambling addiction.

The irony of them becoming homeless is too much for me not to laugh.
They did not think this through. Should have set up a trust for the guy with a third party trustee and asked the homeless guy to give them a cut. Who knows he may have gave them 100k for the hell of it.

It was way more than they expected. They saw $$$$.
Had they bought him a house and put him through fancy rehab no one would have batted an eye at them buying a car.
It was his money.
Though I wouldn't be surprised if he throws a

This. I'm sure he would have shared it.
I would have first sent him to the best rehab I could. The one that fixed Steve-O.
Then house, car, pay off any of his old debts. Get him a bank account, savings and credit card(he's probably a 400). Then take a small fee.
It's his money, he did the deed.

If I learned anything from this story it's that you are now legally obligated to give that handjob.

Jeez how? Look, these people are scum, but if idiots donate, that’s on them. We shouldn’t need the government to step in to regulate who and what people should trust.
I don’t like this at all.

Do you normally charge for handjobs? What’s the going rate?

Also , who asks a bum for money? That's pretty low in itself.
She didn't.

I don’t think this dude has a claim to the money. When you donate it clearly tells you who the organizer of the fund is. It mentions them “getting control of it”, but also sounds like they originally set it up as well. They donated to the couple, not to the guy.
People need to be responsible and realize that as good as it makes them feel to share it on Facebook, they’re giving money to someone on the internet and it’ll probably not get put to good use.
There may be a case for fraud, but it should be handled like a bankruptcy and their assets should be liquidated and the donors refunded, if the guy wants to set up another fund himself, he’ll probably do well but it’s not like he employed anyone or had any agreement to make a claim on the funds.
