I can't imagine me attending one, but I checked out a few when I was younger. I like to be home with my dogs as much as possible. I'm a social loner.

Having a house three blocks off of Napoleon and being able to walk to the parade routes for Mardi Gras was one of the only redeeming qualities of living in NOLA.

Hanging out with friends and essentially tailgating from Thursday-Sunday was awesome, and Lundi Gras was always very chill.

First time not being in NOLA for Mardi Gras since 2008, and seeing everything really kicking into gear this weekend is making me miss it.

I've rode in Slidell, New Orleans, and just finished in Houma. Houma is definitely a better time or at least Hercules is. Hercules is the heaviest throwing parade I've been to

I rode in Youngsville one year on the Anytime Fitness float. Man, I've gone through some shite since then.

Didn't they initially ride on 1st Sunday afternoon after moving Uptown?
I'm not sure what the schedule was after they moved them to the east bank. They were traditionally a day parade on the Sunday the week before Bacchus.

In the 80s and 90s, Algiers (and Terrytown on the back half of the route) had Nefertiti on Friday night two weeks out (they stopped rolling in the early/mid 90s). Then one week out Cleopatra was on Friday night, Choctaw (later replaced by the Krewe of America and then Aladdin) on Saturday during the day, and Alla on Sunday during the day. There was also Nomtoc, which rolled on different days on a different route on General Meyer. Lots of fun times.

MG traffic has nothing on the pita post game tiger stadium experience. And I’m a season ticket holder.

Only low IQ people are capable of enjoying Mardi Gras every year.

Some people are just simply incapable of fun or happiness.

Not fun. Not safe. Unless in a rare mostly family viewing block, crowds obnoxious… and even then - see one parade, you’ve seen them all. Even if you catch loads of stuff, it is still junk and clutter once you get home.

I've never enjoyed the ones in New Orleans.

I enjoy a good all day Saturday or Sunday Mardi Gras weekend in a spot with chairs, food, a bathroom nearby, etc. I’m a sucker for the day parades. Iris, Tucks, etc.

I’m heading in for Choctaw today, but I think I’m going to get washed away before it happens.

You get f$&ked up in public in a big mass of other f$&ked up people while dancing, eating tailgate food, and having free stuff thrown to you. The appeal is obvious.

It just doesn’t appeal to everyone or everyone at every stage of their life. Mardi Gras is most fun if you are a small kid, a young adult who likes to drink, a parent of smallish kids, or if you ride in a krewe on a float. Being on a float is crazy fun.

I prefer them over your gay pride parades.

Had to drive through this shite trying to get home tonight. Traffic fricked up everywhere. Throngs of substandard to mediocre humanity.

I definitely get how older people might not like crowds and the parades, but you were going home to post on Tiger Droppings. If you read the posts on here, you'll quickly realize that we're not posting alongside the upper echelon of humanity on here (entertaining and fun as it may be).

As for the question, almost all kids love Mardi Gras and so it's enjoyable to watch them have so much fun. Most people out there naturally enjoy the parades due to things like the good music by the marching bands and other live bands, the spectacle of the floats (many of which are quite creative or funny), the various unique food choices along the route that might not normally be present, and just being outside with friends, family, and other strangers who are just looking to break the monotony of life to have a little fun.
