Lear Jets were never intended to be operated Single Pilot IFR , but that's what you had in this case . No one with the experience and common sense to question the authority of a Captain in over his head. Competent Aviators never bullseye a 47000 ft high super cell, and this wasn't the first time the idiot had done it. 6 months ago this same crew got in over their heads in severe turbulence but somehow miraculously didn't shite the bed... that time.

Fairly certain that’s not what he meant, but since the pilot is in/near the nose…we’re in a nose dive…I feel like just unbuckling my seatbelt would get me most of the way there(assuming I’m in the first/2nd row)

Real OT baws would jump into their lifted trucks, but planes don't fly high enough for that

lol no. They probably knew for a couple of minutes that they were headed towards thier death.

They seem to have suddenly lost their elevator mid fight in turbulence.

But it wasn’t minutes. It was nose diving so fast the plane was close to ripping itself apart. 76 seconds from beginning to lose altitude and faceplanting.

We fly on a 45XR occasionally and have always gotten the vibe that both pilots were on equal footing. We flew into DBA last month hours before the hurricane made landfall in the panhandle. We actually swung our way off the Atlantic coast so we didn’t get near any of the outer bands. The fact that they decided to fly through that cell rather than avoid it when they were still at cruise altitude is mind boggling. Having that young of a 2nd didn’t help either.

When I found out it was a Lear my mind immediately went to our flights. The highest our pilots will go is 41,000. I rarely wear the seatbelt. Since the kids surely would’ve been buckled in I hope the parents were too. If not, those kids faced the terror of the dive without a parent to comfort them.

In the past I feared this and I’d prefer to get knocked out rather than taking that 90 second dive into the ground fully conscious. The thought I’ve given to this over the past few days has oddly put me at peace with the possibility of this.

Real answer - shoot a text to someone I love that isn't on the plane that says tell everyone I love them and always will.

Then screaming FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

The pilot and CP realized they were in trouble and tried to take evasive action to get above (37,000 ft) that ever expanding storm. Dang, those sudden variations in altitude ranging from 600 - 700 ft must have created a really bumpy ride.

When asked by ATC what was the temperature? She responded,"-47 degree celsius", followed by that "precipitation" message followed by that Mayday message. I'm thinking, just like that - Icing conditions stalled that aircraft. It went downhill (literally) quickly from there.

ATC gave them plenty warning of developing storm conditions ahead. They acknowledged the warning, and even indicated taking evasive action (as in deviate around or over the beast). But I'm thinking that storm was expanding so rapidly it just engulfed them.

Sad.

I know this is a dumb question, but we doesn't the plane have smaller parachutes?

Or come up with some extremely light fabric that could pop out of top of the roof and parachute the whole plane at a reasonable speed?

I get rich, I'm still flying domestic, screw those death traps
