When I was learning to fly my instructor was a 21 year old who had never flown in a commercial plane. I was the only non Indian student in the fight school too. Which was odd.

I feel terrible for her parents. They have no doubt heard the audio and have to deal with the fact that the final moments of their child were spent in sheer terror.

Sad really. She had no clue what to do.
Thing that’s crazy is the captain of the airplane who is the one flying since she’s on the radios seems totally checked out from the audio. She is the one trying to get him to snap with it look outside do something.

Flight hours more important than age, though 20 year olds likely won't have significant flight hours.
True but there is also emotional maturity that comes into play. For something like a pilot, the ability to keep your head while others are losing theirs is key. That comes with age.

i'm sure this has been answered in this thread, but i have only ready the last few pages.
does this plane have a de-icing capability and if so would it have had to fail for this to happen? or can it be overwhelmed in extreme conditions?

I suppose. I stand corrected the man at the controls was non functional. Imagine being a passenger and knowing how fricked you are.

At that point, there was absolutely nothing anyone could do, except God.
I wish I hadn’t listened to that audio, especially now that I know she was only 20.

The time for 'doing something' was before the wings ice over and the stabilizer shears off in a dive at Mach 0.9.
She wanted to be in the Bahamas and just wanted him to fix it.

Not sure the specifics on the 60, but the 40/45 would take hot bleed air from the engine core and run it through the leading edges of the wing, horizontal stabilizer, and engine nacelle. I’m sure the 60 had a similar system.

I don’t know. Likely isn’t “I know what happened” wtf is wrong with folks reading comprehension?
To be fair your wording isn't exactly clear. It can come off as 'everyone is dumb but you' or you could be talking about the people who are claiming its a missile when it clearly wasn't. It could also come off as none of us in this thread knows what is going on and are just throwing out our ideas.

Oh 100%. Don’t disagree at all, but you keep fighting and don’t resign.

This is why Gen Z can’t get jobs.

IF the plane had no horizontal stabilizer, there isn't much anyone could have done. I'm not sure what you expected them to do at that point.
And I'm not defending them. Just saying once they entered the nose dive, I don't think there was anything anyone could've done. Screaming and praying was about the only option.

thanks. could something like this be a system failure from that not workign correctly? or could the system be overwhelmed if the conditions were bad enough?

It has measures that can be used preemptively if you know you're going into icy conditions. If the plane's already iced or you go into extreme conditions, you're screwed.
They said on the ATC audio that they were managing light ice early on, so preliminary thought is the system got overwhelmed when they hit the storm cell head on.

Yes the plane had de/anti-icing systems on board.
No, they wouldn’t have had to fail for this to happen.
Depending on the speed of the aircraft when it hit the severe turbulence they could’ve pushed the airframe to its structural limits which could've caused the Horiz. Stab to shear off.
This would’ve happened with or without icing occurring.
Once the elevator control is gone nothing was going to keep this aircraft from nosediving for the ground.
Icing may or may not have been a factor here, and we’ll have to wait and see what the NTSB can recover from this flight to see what they come up with.
If they can find the missing HS maybe that’ll be enough to tell them what happened structurally. Unfortunately there’s not much left where the rest of the plane hit.

The young copilot on a doomed Learjet texted her fellow pilot boyfriend to say she was experiencing turbulence just minutes before the plane crashed in Florida, killing all onboard, her heartbroken family told The Post.
Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20, was in communication with her loved ones and with air traffic control up until the moment the plane nosedived and hit the ground at speed in Palm Beach County on Sunday afternoon.
“She texted her boyfriend, I think, at 12:40 p.m. and the accident was at 12:50 p.m.,” Filgueiras’ stepfather, Thiago Corteleti, 44, told The Post from his home in Florida.

Her co-pilot in Sunday’s flight has not been identified. He appears to be heard reciting the Lord’s Prayer in harrowing audio of their final seconds as Filgueiras screams about them plummeting to their deaths.

Why would she text her bf if they are sitting next to each other?
