The young copilot on a doomed Learjet texted her fellow pilot boyfriend to say she was experiencing turbulence just minutes before the plane crashed in Florida, killing all onboard, her heartbroken family told The Post.

If this is true, it's crazy that she is up there texting her boyfriend rather than navigating around the weather. Unbelievable

Seems like these net-jet / fly-by-night charter operators popular nowadays are the AirB&B of the sky.

Slick website, looks great in the photos, and you got a great rate, but once you check in you realize it's some piece of shite rent house that wouldn't sell before the divorce.

Because her copilot was not her bf?

Why would she text her bf if they are sitting next to each other?

What's your angle here?

Wow so she's texting her bf in the middle of an emergency? Im curious how boomer girldads will respond to this.

There seems to be a lot of confusion here. Or maybe I missed this being clarified.

These pilots may have had simulations or whatever but real life things happen and you get better and learn from them not I just read this in a book and I know what to do.

Agreed 100% you can be book smart and know what should be done, but having been through real life experiences is way better than book smarts

IF the plane had no horizontal stabilizer, there isn't much anyone could have done. I'm not sure what you expected them to do at that point.

If it’s gone yea there’s not much that can be done. The impact videos and it appearing gone do support the ice, more drag, force to rip it off. If when they still had it reduced aerodynamics because of ice? Mach tuck because of the speed? Then added speed was the final nail plus the added drag due to ice? Tons of questions still needing to answer to get the full picture what happened here. The investigation needs to do its thing and hopefully shed some light on everything that happened in those final 90 seconds.

Thing that’s crazy is the captain of the airplane who is the one flying since she’s on the radios seems totally checked out from the audio. She is the one trying to get him to snap with it look outside do something.

Huh? Shes in complete distress and screaming.

I'm not going to argue that it was okay for her to be on her phone, but 10 minutes before the crash, they weren't in an emergency.

Not a Boomer, but guessing she knew she was going to die and wanted to text someone she loved.

Would you not do the same?

Her co-pilot in Sunday’s flight has not been identified. He appears to be heard reciting the Lord’s Prayer in harrowing audio of their final seconds as Filgueiras screams about them plummeting to their deaths.

All I heard were the screams - did anyone else catch the praying?

Her copilot was not her boyfriend… She was texting her boyfriend who was either on another plane or on the ground.

So the person responsible for Wx, comms and navigation was texting?

"Omg turbulence," so bumpy and 10m later they crash?

Seems like 10m prior to the crash they should have been rerouting and not on they phone. But, who know's how they do now.

quote:

“The most likely cause, based on the available tracking data, ATC audio, weather context, and the physics of the final trajectory, is this: The Learjet 60 penetrated the core of a strong convective cell (tops reported near 47,000 ft while the aircraft was around 35,000 ft).

Inside the cell it encountered a rapid updraft-to-downdraft transition that drove the nose down. The aircraft then accelerated past its Mach limits, entered Mach tuck (the aerodynamic nose-down force that becomes strong once a Learjet is overspeed at high altitude), and developed a steep spiral.

Descent rates exceeded 30,000 ft/min and the final attitude was near-vertical. Recovery was not possible once that sequence was established.

Ice was reported by the crew and may have added workload or minor performance degradation, but at approximately –47 °C classic structural icing is improbable and is not required to explain the observed behavior.

Claims of an isolated negative-G pushover specifically shearing the horizontal stabilizer are aerodynamically possible in severe turbulence but remain secondary and unconfirmed;

the dominant, data-supported chain is cell penetration ? upset ? overspeed/Mach tuck ? unrecoverable dive.

The critical decision was the failure to deviate around a cell that was visible on radar and associated with ground stops at FLL.

Once inside the core, the margin for recovery disappeared within roughly 30 seconds.”

Of course who wouldn’t be… but she’s still able to relay accurate information to ATC, has her bearings to know what’s up and what’s down (something that has killed plenty of pilots not being able to do in far less extreme situations), and one of her screams is telling the captain to look outside as if trying to get him to get his bearings.
