1.3 million gators in Florida? That's a number I wouldn't have guessed. Wow.

State population is 22 million. Guessing people are seeing gators in their backyards and pools more than they want to.

Growing up in the bayou's of St Landry parish this was our fun jumping in a canoe about 1am with the 22 rifles and shining the Spotlight over the bayou looking for the glowing eyes. Don't think we ever saw this many, in one spot, but you could always tell how big they were by the distance between the eyes.
Looking back on it we were crazy in the middle of a bayou with 22 rifles shooting at 7 to 12 ft gators.
Young and stupid!

I’ve kayaked in Choctaw bayou just off of intra coastal waterway in west Baton Rouge at night. It looked very much like that. Very worrisome.

Only really issue was when they surface under you and you hit them with your paddle. Both parties were scared and caught off guard. Created a lot of chaos when that happened.

So true. I've seen gators in places I never thought I'd see gators just 20 years ago. Just about every body of water where wildlife lives is inhabited by gators.

That one month hunting season every late summer is not putting a dent in their population-----no matter how many Troy Landry and his sort remove from the swamps.

Should capture them and release them on Disney grounds

Disney has over 300 lakes on their 300,000 acres. They have so many gators that the debate after the two year old got killed, entered into a phase of people screaming to take all gators of the Lagoon. Having done a lot of construction projects on the property. I pointed out ...you remove the gators from that lagoon and within 30 days, it will be filled again. Gators migrate looking for no competition and wider ranges. You cannot solve the issue.

Babies. They got a big summbitch someone ran over on 182 right before 90. Still sitting on the side of the road. Houma wild. I’ve seen gators in the small ditches on mlk.

This reminds me of a story from my younger days back when I was in dental school. Me and a friend went down to a cypress swamp area around Golden Meadow one night to catch some baby gators. We were walking a levee and when our spotlight hit a small pond, it lit up like a Christmas tree - full of baby gators. We had a scoop net, so our strategy was to turn the light off, one of us would walk out into the middle of the little pond, stand there in the dark for a few minutes while things calmed down, then the other one of us would turn on our spotlight and the little gators would just be floating on top of the water and we'd scoop one up. Then we'd switch up and the other would go in the pond with the net, let the scattered babies calm down and resurface again, then hit the light and scoop. We did this for a little while and had caught 4 baby gators. Then it dawned on me and I was like, "Hey - you think the momma gator might be around here?" We wised up and got the frick out of there

Pro tip: distance between their eyes will tell you how big it is and if its worth wrestling or not.

I am glad we don't have saltwater or Nile crocs in the US. I know many ppl are scared of gators but ppl that have been around them know they are pretty docile for the most part.
