I'm pretty sure locals are still gonna call it Lee circle no matter what happens

Eventually that won't be the case and that's the point.

Keep it Lee Circle and put up a statue of Harry Lee. You can't be against honoring someone from a family of immigrants who spent his entire life in public service between the Air Force and JPSO.

I am actually 100% okay with this or Brees Circle.

Leah Chase is a local legend now.

Robert E. Lee is one of the greatest generals of all time and a top 3 American general of all time. Hell, he’s one of the greatest Americans of all time, period.

I’ve never heard of Leah Chase until she died.

He's not from New Orleans.

Most people who don't live there or go there very often don't know places like dooky chase, even though it's at the airport now.

She was a great woman, but it will always be Lee Circle.

Because I’m not from New Orleans nor do I go there often. Nor is this person really worth much of a mention.

I'd rather put the symbol of our city up there and call it Fleur-de-lis Circle.

Makes sense. Couldn't be anything about states rights or anything like that. Definitely, it was ONLY about slavery. Who knew wars were so simple?

Put a big Fleur de lis on the column, rename it Saints circle, and ask Gayle Benson to pay for it.
Just my .02.

As for Leah Chase, name something in the culinary arts after her (a school / lab etc.).

The Cornerstone Speech spelled it out. Apparently, it was about slavery.

If these things were more along the lines of "We've honored REL for X number of years and now we're moving on with our history and want to honor someone else"

rather than

"OMG we're scared of our own shadow take down everything that has anything to do with the confederacy OMG"

I don't think people would mind that much

This won't sit well with the OT. They are more focused on honoring a racist general than a black woman.

Oh look, another person who is regurgitating reactionary bulshit & doesn't know what the frick they're talking about.
