'm with LSUfanNKaty. As husbands sometimes you have to purposely lose battles, to win the war. And if my wifey threw a big stink about getting a new piece of exercise equipment for her to keep herself in shape and hot. That's something I'm willing to cave on.

I'm not saying I wouldn't put up a fight and make the same arguments made in here about how overpriced they are, but that would be to ensure that she uses it often to spite me or prove me wrong. which again, as LSUfanNkaty points out, benefits us as husbands in the long run.

Bingo

Trust me, I fought the Peloton battle for a few months... but when the idea of being able to go hunting more often because of the bike, I jumped on that shite.

Yeah, I see your point, but I'm a runner too and I despise treadmills. It's not substitute for the real thing, IMO.

If I'm forced to run on a treadmill, it's the exception to the usual for me. Same with any indoor cycle. I'd rather go run and bike outside.

Peloton is advertising this as a lifestyle, and I just don't get it.

You can't be that serious about riding then ;)

Summer crits are won in the winter. Base work. Nothing better for that then a trainer inside, be it this thing, turbo or other (rollers, magnetic, etc).

Ha. I'm serious about riding for my goals..which aren't competitive. I just go out and cycle 15-20 miles or so a few times a week. Year round if weather permits.

If you don’t have a Peloton bike you can still get all the digital content on their app for $20 a month. That’s what I did before I got the bike. Went to empty spin studio at my gym and did rides from the app.

If you can just go to a gym and ride why pay for the bike?

These cost $100-150 and double by letting you use an outdoor bike, so when you decide you want to ride it, you can.

Peloton is such an overpriced item that has been around for some time or another but marketing is really what's driving this thing.

I find it hard to believe training on a Peloton will prepare you as well for crits or tris as a cycleops or Wahoo Kickr etc. Totally different ball game imo.

I did chuckle when I read that the owner/founder never intended this to be about making quality bikes..it was a business idea and he definitely won for now. Gonna be a lot of bricked bikes being sold on the cheap a few years from now if/when it ever goes under. It's a boring clothes hanger without the 40-70 a month subscription.
ALl that said I won't hate on the people that use it. Whatever it takes for people to get off their arse and do something physical these days for exercise!

Bingo. Hell, add to it a Zwift set up and you are still WAY below the Peloton price.
2 different markets though I suppose. I did lol when Peloton is suing for sole rights to the name 'peloton' considering it's been around for centuries in reference to the group of riders in a race/ride/etc.. just fukin ridiculous

I would prefer to have an elliptical machine rather than a stationary spinner, but, there are a lot more moving parts in one of those and, by the way, who fixes the Peloton once it needs repair?

My husband and I don’t have road bikes. He has a mountain bike, I have a hybrid. Last thing I want is his big muddy mountain bike tires on a trainer in our spare bedroom

We also wanted all the on screen content as well.

I get what you are saying though. Just wasn’t an option we wanted. Better suited to those that road cycle.

lol totally agree. I get the hate for the pelotons. But, hell, if it gets you moving why not

FWIW on training though... base work sucks. winter work sucks. I have a kickr myself and I love that damn thing; motivation is my biggest issue(Yayy! two hours of staring at a fricking wall at the same cadence/power for the next 8 weeks). If the Peloton makes it easy to get that kinda crap done though? Miles are miles. Cant be any better/worse

Comes with a year warranty. You call if you have issues and they send someone out. I’ve read their customer service with this is really great. You can buy extended plans as well and same thing applies.

Read one woman tipped her bike completely over to the side and it shattered the screen. She called and they came out and replaced the screen for her. No charge to her.

No.

The last thing our society needs is more half-faggets on the roads.

Our architect suggested a Peloton nook for our pied-à-terre. They do not belong in nooks. They belong where an observatory would be, if you didn’t own a Peloton.

We fired him.

We are getting off track here. This is about the merits. It's placement!

The tablet uses android. You can easily "unbrick" it if they did go under.

To the subject of the thread, the commercials are pretty ridiculous. I actually took that twitter feed as making fun of the commercials and not the actual bike itself. Mine is sitting in my office (i guess it could be added to the funny pictures since it is looking out the window to one of the best bike paths in Ga)

But these are cracking me up.

I don't

I just want low-impact cardio (i.e. not running) that has someone yelling at me to push myself harder.

ETA:

Basically I want spin class without having to go to spin class miles from my house with a bunch of strangers. I can do it on my own time after work from my house.

My 24hour Fitness membership is only $21 a year. So I get spin classes for $1.75 a month at any location in the USA.
