Swing and a miss.

You could look online and see which schools in metro NOLA have about 800 kids.

They could always go to a small private academy like I did and start both on offense and defense and play every special teams every single year from 7th grade till I graduated high school

i missed less than 10 plays (including special teams) my eighth grade year at my tiny rural middle school

probably wouldn't have been much different if i stayed there for high school

Our middle school recently had football team tryouts. We have about 800 kids in school. Football coach (who has been here a while) usually takes about 40-45 kids. We usually have at least 80 try out.

Very few 6th graders make the team. Most of the team is 7th and 8th graders.

A lot of these 6th graders are travel ball kids who have never been cut from anything before. They are upset... which I understand. It's a new experience for them.

However... the parents.. some of these parents of the cut kids are losing their minds. Instead of telling their kids that they just need to work harder... they are running their mouths.

Trashing the school and the coach on FB "Coach is an idiot... my kid deserves to be on that team". Calling the school principal and asking for the coach to be fired.

I guess in the past, when Braxxxxton wasn't good enough for one travel ball team, they just called the coach an idiot and found another team that "respected" the kid's playing ability.

Parents, when your kid doesn't make a team at school... console them... tell them it will be ok... and then help them get better at their sport if they want to try again next year. Don't trash the coaches and school on social media.

It's insane that this even has to be said.

newsflash...this has been happening since the damn 70s lol well before travel ball became a thing.

it mainly happens when parents have an ego about their kid. They dont have to be living through them per se but they have an ego about who and where they play.

i see it usually happen with a couple different types

1) dad was high level athlete who had natural ability where he didnt have to work hard at all and has always been catered to.

2) wealthy and dad didnt play sports and is now obsessed with the kid playing aka...living through the kid

3) single mom who cant handle her baby having his feelings hurt

4) just straight up helicoptor parents that cant handle their kid getting his feelings hurt

5) just wealthy family who feel like they should be able to buy access.

here is another newsflash...many parents suck, not all, not even most but many do.

Is it possible that the best kids were in fact NOT selected? What are the chances that you guys actually selected the top 40 kids trying out? Pretty slim to be honest.

get mommy and daddy to get you in the weight room and learn to eat correctly and not just gorging on ding dongs and candy.

also go outside and sprint hard as you can multiple times a day

get dad to teach you either blocking or running routes

have dad get a pad off amazon and start blocking or shedding blocks

if all that is too expensive, get a jump rope and do it every day and sprint full speed along with bodyweight stuff daily.

shite is not complicated. stop acting like you can work on football stuff outside of practice. thats dumb.

When I got cut in grade school it was because I wasn’t good enough (baseball) and my dad would offer to hit me some balls. We never blamed anyone. I guess things have changed

Why do you have one team for 3 grades? That's your issue and probably why your team sucks. 6th graders should be playing and getting better not waiting until 8th grade to get a chance to play.

you dont know what you are talking about fatman. go do some research. even the american pediatric association recommends strength training, even to elementary school age kids.

here is some reading material for you though to educate yourself

bro, do you even private coach your kid? probably don't even have a strength, conditioning, or nutrition staff for little Graxtyn

wait so you think its ok to put little johnnie in football, soccer etc and expose him to forces that are 4 to 5x his bodyweight but its not ok for him to lift weight suddenly?

or does that frick up the childhood like so many of yall claim and a parent allowing his kid to lift at a young age is suddenly a bad parent?

For 6th-8th graders? Just exist. Most of them will grow a good bit physically and athletically in that time without trying.

A lot of it is genetics. You can't "learn" to throw a ball like Joe Burrow. Just like Joe Burrow can't play O-line.

You can't outwork your genetic makeup.

We have roughly the same amount of students where I coach. No one is cut. We have 132 players this year I believe. Each grade has their own team. I have 44 receivers…seriously…among the 3 teams. We’re just one of 3 feeder schools for the local high school.

You have no idea who is going to be good in high school when they’re 11. Why would you cut kids at that age? Sounds like the coach or administration is just lazy. What high school does this feed? How successful are they?
