not really just seen multiple comments, couple from you, about this being some weird thing.

its weird in the US we dont require kids to be able to meet certain strength metrics before being allowed to play sports honestly and its one of the reason we have so many injuries in youth sports.

I don't even know how to search for whatever I may have said about young kids lifting weights, don't really give a shite but every time there's a thread about kids sports you are all up in arms with a big knot in your panties and have zero nose for sarcasm or humor, lighten the frick up Francis!!!

A lot of these 6th graders are travel ball kids who have never been cut from anything before. They are upset... which I understand

I don't understand it. 6th grade? Of course the older kids will get preference.

I can’t imagine the parents if my son plays HS soccer this year…there were tryouts and practice…and there’ll be games before he’s cleared from football. If goes out there and starts I may get shanked.

Do they not have after school teams the kids could go to, so they could build upon their skills?

There is nothing wrong going to another team and working on your skills for the next years try outs.

We all did this.
I was ok in 6th grade as a lineman, but not good enough to play with 7th and 8 graders.
Went to a team that was not as good. Our coach was a former NFL linemen.
I was able to learn from him and very grateful for giving me the chance to play on his team. I learned how to properly block down field, pull as a guard to knock the DE on the ground, and read what the defense was doing. If I did not go to another team I would not have picked up these skills or had practice to hone my skills. We even played the team I got cut from and bruised up a guy pretty good by the 3rd quarter that was old than me.

The next year I passed up 8th graders and started on the team as a 7th grader.

It takes hard work especially these days if you want to play on school teams.

I played football, basketball, and baseball in hs and that was the case my junior and senior years, go straight from one sport to starting in another, back then the coaches just tried to field the best team, I even did a few track events, absolutely no practice

The difference in a 6th grader and a 7th grader is big, but from 6th to 8th, there is night and day difference.

My kid is in 8th now, he is faster, stronger, tougher, more agile, and just a whole lot better than in 8th.

There would be no reason to be upset if your 6th grader didnt make the team.

This kind of adversity for my kid turned into making them better that they otherwise would have been. Turned lemonade into lemonade for her high school years and great memories as a result.

In summary, tough titty Braxxxxton’s Daddy.

My son kicked those kids asses in soccer all growing up…now that he’s a highly ranked football recruit I just know it makes those parents mad as hell when he shows up with magic. It’s heart, they’ll never understand.

I was cut from the football team in sixth grade; made it in seventh, and started in eighth. I'm not sure what the issue is. Getting cut hurt, but it motivated me to get faster and stronger.
But getting faster and stronger will happen naturally.

I hear a lot of 'put in the work' stories, and am around youth sports daily thru my kids. I dont see a ton of kids doing drills around town.

a lot is genetics and technique, I was a pretty good athlete as was my dad and his brothers, dad was a sprinter, has/had a few records at LSU, he came home from work one day and a few of us were playing a little pickup football game, I was trash talking about my speed and my dad(in a suit and tie and dress shoes,) said "you aren't that fast because you really don't have good running technique" smartass me, "oh yeah, sure" he has us line up and race(I'm in cleats,) for about 50 yards, he absolutely smoked me and he was 45 and I was 17, after that I asked him to show me more of this technique stuff

The schools where I am in the burbs of Houston don't have 6th grade teams. Kids still play league ball at that age. 7th and 8th play separately and they each have A, B & C teams with A being the more skilled and bigger players. Its the only non-cut sport but play time is a different issue entirely. If your school system can afford this it works and it creates decent high school players.

The high schools play the traditional JV and V but the freshmen play separate and are not eligible to play with the upper classmen.

We had a 6th grade team and a 7th/8th grade team when I was in middle school. Not having a team at all for 6th graders is pretty stupid. For one, they're like 12, they should still have a place to play even if they suck. Two, a lot of those kids could develop a little later and having one less year playing is going to hurt the high school team they feed into.
My son is on the 5th/6th grade team this year. They have it set up like that. And at that age, they're still very much learning. You're exactly right though. That's how it should be. To expect a 10 year old to beat out a 13 year old is retarded.

I worked with a guy who had a son that started playing football in the 9th grade. He just retired from the NFL and is a millionaire many times over. I wonder how many of the little hot shot travel ball kids are making what he made?

I tell my kids (I'm a coach too) if someone ever tells you that you're not ready or that you're not good enough.... don't get discouraged.

Add the word "yet" to the end of that sentence and keep working.

Make the get-back bigger than the set-back.
