At my Middle School (City), each grade was divided into three "teams"; academic ability did not matter, except for math. Usually, there was one teacher that taught the advanced math courses, so naturally, those students were on that specific "team". So nine teams, four teachers each (some had three; others had five), 25 students in each class = 900 students. I think we had 855 one year, and 920 in another. We were one of the smallest in our city.

Still doesn't make any sense that they would barely take enough kids to field a full practice. The more details you give the more it sounds like you're full of shite, tbh

I'm not the coach. If I were the coach, I'd take more kids.

Supposedly there are resource limitations. IF I were the coach, I'd probably fundraise / ask the district for more money for equipment.

The fact that the coach may not be running the team you or I would does not change the fact that he is indeed running it that way.

What if I told you this team has gone 1-5 the past two seasons?

Your middle school (6th-8th) has 800 kids? That must be one of the biggest middle schools in the state.

Our breakdown for our single High School

9th - 1908
10th - 1864
11th - 1752
12th - 1664

If it's 6th graders they need to wait their turn but I don't see why the coach can't keep some of the 6th graders for developmental purposes.
Even if they are practicing they are getting better but I guess it is hard to coach that many kids at that age while getting them all to listen.

Why do you say that?

Is it not possible you can have 3 kids that are more deserving to be on the team than say 8 others that made it and the kid knows it too?

Is it a shitty LA public school? That’s the only way I could see some of your claims being true

Do y'all have multiple football fields to practice / play on?

The have 3 fields and indoor 50 yard facility.

Some practice in mornings and other after school. All JV teams will practice together, as will both Freshman teams. Varsity is by themselves in stadium.

We have about 26 coaches for football.

I’m against having any kind of cuts on school teams until the 9th grade. 6th & 7th graders are still little kids and should be given playing time if they go out for the team. 8th grade they should still be on the team, but no guarantee of playing time.

6th, 7th & 8th grades being on the same football team is asinine anyway. Pretty huge difference between 6th and 8th grade. Sounds like your whole system is messed up and the 6th grade parents have every right to be aggravated. Your coach thinks he’s Bud Kilmer doesn’t he?

How many shitty LA public middle schools have 800 kids? And we know the OP is in Jeff Parish. This doesn't pass the smell test

They could always go to a small private academy like I did and start both on offense and defense and play every special teams every single year from 7th grade till I graduated high school

we had a couple of guys do this, mainly because it was at the time of forced integration and their parents pulled them out of public school, they were average to slightly above average athletes at our school but were absolute dominating, multi-sport studs at the private schools, a couple even got scholarships to play at small colleges
