7 year old grandson expressing interest in nursing.I’m talking up becoming
echocardiogram technician.Much better job,IMO.Decent pay, don’t work nights, weekends or holidays( would be on rotating call).Don’t have to deal with bedpans, diarrhea and all the other unpleasntries nurses have to deal with.
Echo Tech is a great gig for all the points mentioned, I have pushed Echo/Sono, and Rad Tech to my family members as well.
Major drawback compared to nursing is the job change availability and/or advancement. As you know if he gets tired of one specialty he can choose another and opportunities are nearly endless, plus he could also go back for NP, CRNA, or go into Administration which has the protentional to earn more than NP and CRNA.

Thanks. I ask because my daughter is pursuing the same.
Working now in Chemical Engineering but wants to focus towards the “bio medical “
Seems like many are focused on this field but I’m having difficulty tracking down what this means as a career/financial.

Bingo. Use all the AI coming out to start whatever business you want to be in. Don't run from the automation, be the one selling it or its outputs. I'm telling my kids to work in the trenches of whatever field now while they can work cheap. Learn a business inside and out. Then figure out how to automate and outperform the competition.
ETA that we're also requiring at least some college-level courses. At least and Associates degree related to basic business mgt or whatever field they choose.

Kids nowadays are being pushed towards the trades. Welding, HVAC, plumbing, etc and healthcare.
There's gonna be a glut of those people soon and they won't be making nearly as much as the ones today. In ten years welders will be a dime a dozen. (i didn't say good welders)
I would not be so sure, many kids today are soft and it takes the right mindset and personality to work in the heat, an attic or septic tanks.

Been hearing this for a while now.
I’ve head that about LPNs and RNs for 15 years and they are as needed as ever.
I think these technical programs are pushing out folks with basic qualifications and a percentage just aren’t sticking. They either can’t put the skills into practice or just don’t have the work ethic.

We're already due for Skynet to take over. So I'd just push military. We'll need people with necessary training to take on the Terminators.

Mine has been hell bent on psychology for a little while now, but she still has two years left of H.S., so we'll see if that changes any.
We have been trying to guide her to medicine (RN, NP, PA...whatever), but she's not buying it as of now.
Will AI be able to replace the actual psychologist - possibly. I'm sure there would be many people that would be happy speaking with an AI-generated image providing info gathered from LLM's. Now, what's the privacy look like for those folks - who knows.
It seems, like most everything else, AI would certainly help on the administrative side of the practice, so maybe it's easier to run an office down the road and be able to spend more time with patients and less time mired down in paperwork.

I tried and tried to get mine to go to college but he just wasn't interested so he found a job (I helped) working for a drone delivery service.
They have a program where he can go to drone pilot school (paid by them), it's becoming a big deal where we live but a lot of the drones are autonomous.
The guy who started WAZE runs the company, they are partnered with doordash and uber so maybe my kid can move up in the company.
He's making $17.00 an hour plus a monthly bonus of $500-$600, it gets him out of my pocket.

My kiddo has been showing a talent for drawing so I mentioned architecture but also mentioned dental hygienist
they're both somewhat "protected" fields. i.e. some sort of state approved certification. in AL, I truly believe the hygiene schools throttle the numbers to create an artificial shortage of hygienists.

Older son - college senior - business. I told him to learn how to run a business and team up with an electrician/ac/plumbing guy that knows the actual labor side.
Younger son - college fresh. He's planning on physical therapy.
Not sure how those will play out but I think its better than accounting or financial advisor over the next 10 years.

I would say any job where you can touch people or materials and try and get away from jobs where you analyze things.

In LA they join the environmental engineers and environmental scientist filling out permit applications, environmental reports, and of course the OTs favorite topic, NEPA Studies!

The National Guard.
Teachers expect my teen to use ChatGPT for everything. They learn nothing, and the teachers teach nothing. Keep in mind places like Khan Academy have thousands of university classes online, most of them free.
Go into electrical, and take just enough courses to be able to plan how you're going to hang your own shingle and manage people working for you.

My daughter is in an architecture program now. While AI will help with it in the future, I don’t believe jobs like that will ever not have humans.
In my opinion this is going to be the case with most professions. AI will be a disruptive technology that will stunt job growth in the short run but in the long run it will create new opportunities and career paths.
