There is now. No middle school baseball and rec leagues are mostly kids who have never played.

It wouldn’t be that if parents stopped the silly travel ball nonsense. Your kid isn’t going to the MLB and a scholarship to Backwater State isn’t worth it. Most kids would be happiest playing on a field without a single adult around.

It sucks as a parent. The lady in the OP is way over the top but the options are extremely limited now for actually well run Rec leagues

Looks like she could use the nutritionist more than her son needs one.

Did not watch.

Big part of this whole phenomenon of travel ball is the social value for parents. The pre game planning with others, post game dinners and events at the Coach’s cabin when in pigeon forge (example), the tournament rings (that turn fingers green) stacked up in Jaxon’s room like a shrine that parents worship…

MLB Statistically illiterate tax on most, but ROI is not just about Jaxon’s MLB draft value. Mama and Daddy are getting their share, too.

Women's volleyball is one of the easiest sports to get a scholarship in and a player will learn more in one year playing club than they will in 4 years just playing high school ball (if it is a good club). You want to go to two qualifiers every year (out of state). That is where the college coaches are going to see you. I have not coached since leaving Florida, but ours was very reasonably priced.

If your kid is truly elite and gifted at the same level as the .00001% of high school players that make it to the MLB, they won't need a nutritionist, a hitting coach, and all that crap. They will get noticed.

You think all those poor kids down south in Cuba, Dominican, Mexico, etc have nutritionists? Yet look how many make it to the MLB.

Braxxxton's nutritionist isn't gonna move the needle.

A lot of these parents going ham on travel ball would do much better for their kids by piling that money into their 401k so they aren't eventually a burden to the same kid who didn't make it to the pros.

Tony Robicheaux (former UL baseball coach) told me once that he prefers kids that came up through Little League because they were scrappy and grew up knowing that they had to win to advance in baseball. He had a lot of former Little League kids on his rosters.

tony has been dead for years and would not even be recruiting little league kids now. such a stupid thing to bring up

If the parents have the money to spend, it's not my business how they spend it.

Are you really that stupid?

This is an appropriate thing to discuss in a travel ball thread.

What would you like to discuss?

ummm hate to break it to you....but yea. the kids that make it from there are plucked from their homes at 10 and sent to live at academies where they go to school for 2-3 hours a day and train 6-8 daily. they live, sleep and train there. they see their families like once every 3-4 months usually.

of course....like i said earlier...if you are looking at it as an investment or purely financial than its 100% a losing proposition 99.99% of the time.

but the same could be said about something like fishing, hunting, golfing or any other hobby.

let me ask you a question...why is the OT ok with someone spending money on golf lessons, golf clubs, going and playing expensive courses but not someone allowing their kid to do the same in a different sport?

does the OT or your friends ask if you think you are going pro if you take golf lessons? or buy new clubs? or go play anything more than the municipal course?

what about going fishing with a guide? buying a boat and new gear? does that mean I think im going to be on the bass masters tour soon?

why are some hobbies ok...others are not for the OT?

Our daughter played travel softball back in the 90's, we lived in socal. Back then it was the hotbed of softball, every national champion team came from there. Usually had to make 1 trip to another state to qualify for nationals, as the top 3 teams qualified at home. Got recruited as a senior, then hurt her shoulder and that was it. Only goal was to get someone else to pay for her college.

I’m probably at 10-12k between baseball and tennis. It’s fricking BS and sponsored by the Louisiana family court system. Full blown baby back bullshite. I actually have a trial next month to determine whether or not I’m allowed to have Billjaminaxon miss a travel ball tournament to see his great grandfather or other family events.

Ok baws. I know this is a predominantly southern Christian Baw life board. And, admittedly, 16k for travel ball is a LOT of money. Real American dollars as they say.

16k wouldn't even pay the "joining fee" for a full time travel alpine skiing club. And that's before you get into lift tickets for the multiple mountains they race and train on, travel to and from (travel to Europe that is), housing, and equipment.

Seriously I love how we gawk at the $10-$20 entry fee at some ball parks. Try a $150 lift ticket plus $30 for parking for one afternoon of racing.

Serious Alpine racers that will be on team USA someday? You're looking at 80-100k a year without breaking a sweat. Some do it much cheaper, but not that much cheaper.

he died in 2019.....his last recruiting class, the 2017 class had the following freshman

Christian Cusimano- played travel ball

Blake Faecher- played travel ball

nick hanks- no info

jansen fontenot- played travel ball

luke coker- played travel ball

brett williams- played travel ball

not even going to go through the rest of the class because you get the point

which is

toy said things and did the opposite because he wanted the best players period and they are found playing travel ball 99% of the time

so the point is... shut the frick up talking about thing you have zero clue about.
