Coaching high school sports nothing makes me more irate then when a good runner tells me they can’t do cross country because of their fricking club soccer/baseball coach telling them no. Drives me up a damn wall.

or it could be cross country is gay and sucks and literally makes kids slower in the power sports...

seems like the nutritionist for her son is a wise investment.

prolly pay off way more for his health in the end

lets also detail the families that send 10k or more on spending 6 days in disney world. or above middle class families that put their 16 yr old in a 55k+ vehicle to drive to school. Or mommas that buy chick fil a and starbees for their kids 5 days a week. lets go down this slope boys.

you are not allowed to do that. you are only allowed to pay for things the OT blue collar boomers deem worthy and things are not allowed to change from when they grew up

and god forbid you be able to afford the things they deem worthy and travel baseball....that really pisses off the OT.

but to be fair....16k is more than most of the best players spend and it doesnt sound like they can comfortably afford it. So they should prolly look at changing and from the looks of the kid...he needs more time in the gym and less time on the field.

That would require having Dominicans in travel leagues.

umm...they do, its called MLB academies and most of the academies have academies with travel teams in the US that they send the best of the best from the DR to play for in the big PG tournaments.

All these "competition" activities cost a shitton.

Baseball
Basketball
Gymnastics
Cheer

With the last two, you get the added bonus of lifetime mental health counseling.

We probably spent that much annually on my kids gymnastics career. $5k annually for instruction. Like $4k for gear and meet fees. Then the travel expenses all over the South. Over expensive hobby but she had fun. We had fun going to them.

The hard part is options seemed to be recreation which isn’t much time in a sport or full blown team. No great middle ground. And man many of these parents wanting to talk about what LSU is looking for. Crazy expectations.

na...16k on 1 kid....thats big time excessive. travelling 3.5 hours for practice is retarded.

at some point just find a team and do your training yourself.

and if you cant afford 16k....fricking dont spend it

im all for travel baseball but it has to be at a level you can afford.

IT IS NOT AN INVESTMENT! your kid is not an investment period. anyone that looks at it as that is a very low iq individual

as someone else pointed out, college is cheaper than spending 16k a year for 12 years.

travel baseball is just allowing your kid to chase their dreams. but frick, it aint worth going in debt over.

I coached many travel ball and non-travel ball teams for many years - my focus was on the kids having fun and the team aspect of the sport - I had some phenomenal athletes but the reality is that the vast majority of kids won't even make their high school baseball team where you have FR through SRs competing for a very limited number of roster spots - parents have to make the spending decision for themselves but they also need to consider reality

Tony Robicheaux (former UL baseball coach) told me once that he prefers kids that came up through Little League because they were scrappy and grew up knowing that they had to win to advance in baseball. He had a lot of former Little League kids on his rosters.

There isn’t a college baseball team that isn’t 99.99999% travel ball kids right now. Likely haven’t been for 10-15 years

It's 3k a year just to join. Multiply that times 10 years. Then add hotels, gas, and eats.

The multiple times 2 for the second kid.

This is a parent issue and not a travel baseball issue.

This is inline with the obssessed parents in beauty paegants, dance, gymnastics, and many other activities.

I'm sure the percentages are very high because it is a numbers game. There aren't as many good Little League organizations around the country anymore.

I pay what I feel is a ton for both my kids baseball and softball teams.

I would never pay that much for my kids to play a sport unless it the showed REAL promise and the kids were the ones pushing more and more to play just that sport.

And even then, that’s only in HS, after puberty resets everyone’s bodies.
