Football coach and teacher here in Louisiana. We get 10 sick days along with all the other times we are off. Just graduated from LSU and the only thought I've had to use it was the Friday of an upcoming bachelor party. Lol.

Being sick of work counts

Reward perfect attendance, treat people like adults, discipline abusers, your organization will have minimal sick time.

I've used them on occasion for hangovers, like the day after the election.

Never did this in 40+ years of work

I take time off when I truly can't work due to illness. Seriousness illness happens very occasionally but if you want to get ahead you don't make excuses.
I can fool the people I'm accountable to, but the man in the mirror knows whether I'm really sick.

If you only worked 3 days a week there is a good chance your production would diminish.
If your job went smoothly while only working 3 days a week then your position would most likely be absorbed into another one.

9.9 weeks per year total. Half sick half annual. It all rolls over.
Right now I have 18 months of sickleave accumulated and 22 weeks of annual leave. At retirement or separation, anything unused is cashed out with some generous formula although it is less than one to one

My company just switched to unlimited PTO for salaried employees. I've noticed that people have actually taken less days off work since there is no longer a "use it or lose it" vibe. Work if you can, take off when you need to.
I understand that General Electric has done this recently as well...

At my company our sick days are rolled up into our floating holidays so damn right I use every one of them because they are use them or lose them.

I remember my first vacation day.

Yep. It's becoming fairly common here in austin for most non-support jobs.
Companies do it as a way to save money and to keep people from taking a bunch of time off. In my previous job, I would find myself taking a week off for no reason toward the end of the year just because my PTO was about to roll over. Now I don't even think about it and have probably only taken off 2-3 weeks combined in the last year.
Also, they say they "don't care" how much time you take off but it's the same way your mother "doesn't care" if you have had enough to eat or not. Take off too much time and people will notice.

kinda hard to "absorb" a pharmacist position...

Counting really isn't that hard...

Tell us a couple more times what you do? Kinda hard to take off when you basically work in customer service
Posted on 1/23/17 at 10:26 pm to HarrisLetsRide
Most major companies are just going to PTO bank. We are moving to that model later this year. Instead of 3 weeks vacation and 1 week sick, we will get 20 days PTO. Out of respect, they are asking that if we know we will be out, to just tell them we will be out ahead of time.

it really isn't... only thing is, to do what i do, the law says you have to be a licensed professional.... i'm sure if any slack jaw, knuckle dragging bitch, kinda like yourself, could do it and get paid what do to do that "counting", you'd be there with bells on, Nancy...

Ah yeah, well the unlimited PTO is only for non-customer service positions. Hourly shift workers do not get this perk.
Your position would not be absorbed because your situation would fall under the case I outlined that your production would be diminished.

Use them it's already figured into your compensation. A sick day is only a call away.
