we get 13 sick days/year and they roll over with no cap.

You don't get paid out for them when you leave so it's easy to just accumulate a crazy amount of hours.

It's great if you ever need surgery and aren't going to be out long enough to use short term disability. It would be great for maternity/paternity too but we get 8 weeks paid maternity/paternity leave

A guy that worked with my dad hit his PTO cap. The company told him he needed to start using his time or he would not accrue any more leave. He started taking off every Friday and then it turned into every Friday and Monday. After about 3 months the company told him he was going to have to take a chunk of it at one time.

Sounds like you are a salaried janitor for a school district. I would save the 10 days for when you're sick, so you don't get the kids sick.

Seriously, my gf works in public accounting and has 5 weeks paid vacation and they can buy 2 more. Most I've ever heard.

I get 0 weeks. Gotta love 100% commission

My company just switched all time to PTO.

So I get 30 Days PTO and unlimited sick days as long as Manager approves.

Typically if im not feeling well I just work from home and still get shite done.

I've used sick days for job interviews before.

If I'm taking a personal day, I like to give at least a weeks notice if at all possible.

I got called for an interview, and I think they knew I was trying to leave, so it felt less obvious to take a sick day since I only had about a 2 day notice for the interview.

When my son was born my company only wanted me to use 3 sick days. Any other time was supposed to come out of vacation. I had about a month of sick time saved up as I never got sick.

Thankfully my office manager sent me home for the rest of the week when I showed up after 3 days and deducted it all from sick time.

A few weeks later the owner sent out an amendment to company policy spelling out the limited use of sick days for births. Jerks.

My boss and his boss both laughed when I said my wife was pregnant. Their exact words were "some idiots actually want to take a week off when their wife has a kid, you're not one of those idiots are you?"

My wife's company told her she had to work up to the day she went into labor with no extra breaks or accommodations.

It's funny, I never cared about maternity or paternity leave and always thought people were just being obnoxious until I lived it.

We really do have some problems in this country. I'll fight to the death for every business to have their rights to run them how they want, but the longer you're in the workforce today, the easier it is to see why there is no company loyalty anymore.

It is a outdated benefits model, businesses should give X number of days paid leave per year period., Use them if you are sick, kids sick, vacation family obligations, whatever. Eliminates the whole issue of people taking sick days when they are not sick, and people that generally stay healthy and don't use the sick days.

If you're an established, reliable employee with excellent attendance, you'll never be approached in the event you do call in sick.

It's like Tom Brady throwing an interception. No one is going to question him.

I'd probably go crazy if I took 7 weeks of vacation.

I've been on salary for a long time and I don't have any real defined "sick" days. If I am sick, I take off. Still get paid. However, I do not abuse this privilege.

Same here. I work for one person, and we have no other employees. Working from home, going home early, etc. are pretty normal things for us as it is. We don't have paperwork or anything for days off, so it actually causes me to take less off than I would if I had a defined number of days to use. I probably took 5 "vacation days" last year because I had no physical number to reach.
