Had a buddy who took several "sick" days. Got caught by his boss at lunch and was promptly relieved of his duties. If you're going to take a sick day, don't be a moron and go out where you could be seen. I have no sympathy for people who get caught.

That's right and that dudes boss is a bitch. What someone does with their time has no effect on the business. He wasnt going to be there regardless. Does he really think everybody is curled up in the fetal position with the flu when they take a sick day?

If you want a day off without being sick, use annual leave. Otherwise it's stealing.

So what? I've eaten deer roast, ducks, beans, fried fish, damn near everything after leaving it out overnight. Hell I've eaten food that was left out till the next evening. Never had a problem.

I rarely get sick but I get 3 weeks of sick time a year that rolls over so I don't have a problem taking a mental health day every once in a while.

My wife's pregnant so I've been using her monthly 30 minute appointments to take days off recently.

It's called PTO - Personal Time Off

Sick, ropping your mule etc etc etc all the same

I have a freaking lap top with VPN so there's no sick for me. I've worked from home due to sinus headache stuff but haven't taken a true sick day in 3 years.

as a pharmacist, it's insanely hard to call in sick... so when my company switched to PTO instead of vacation, sick, and holiday pay time off, i was pretty happy... i basically went from 2 to 3 weeks of "vacation" time...

I have yet to see someone not just use their "sick" days to do whatever they feel like.
Then when they really get sick, they just don't get paid. and then bitch about getting a short check.

I've been on salary for a long time and I don't have any real defined "sick" days. If I am sick, I take off. Still get paid. However, I do not abuse this privilege.
I have probably used "sick" days in the past 15 years.

There's nothing worse than the guy who goes to work sick coughing and sneezing all over the office getting everyone sick.

...especially when it's because they've already squandered their paid sick leave.

My company just switched to unlimited PTO for salaried employees. I've noticed that people have actually taken less days off work since there is no longer a "use it or lose it" vibe. Work if you can, take off when you need to.

I don't know about you all, but I typically always find myself "coming down" with something bad around mid-March. Weird how it typically always gets real bad on Thursday and Friday of mid-March...
