The crime rate in Atlanta has dropped 30% the last two years.

ETA: Most of that is property crimes.

I don't consider Mobile overrated. If anything, it's probably underrated. Spring Hill area is stunning, very good restaurant scene, and access to great beaches.

My overrated cities would be:
Charleston, SC
Katy, TX
Huntsville, AL

Atlanta was a pretty cool Southern city back in the mid 70s to mid 80s. I don't even think of it as a Southern city now. So many people have moved here and it's gotten so big, it doesn't seem like a Southern city any more, just a massive beehive of cars moving continuously.

It's hard to be over rated when it was never rated to begin with.

Yeah, Memphis claimed that exact same statistic but the truth is that it's never been as bad as it is now. What changed was how they rate crime.

Decriminalizing certain things and not bringing charges is a great way to reduce the crime rate without actually making citizens safer.

Festival international is fun, but not really that good of a festival. Just another event. some weird bands spread out downtown.

Food scene is good but nothing to write home about. There is some very good food, but terrible service and atmosphere. Or good service but terrible food and atmosphere or good atmosphere, but bad food and service. Not sure how La Fonda's is still in business. Service used to be good but has sucked in the past 5 years.

Nashville's surrounding areas (franklin, brentwood) blow New Orleans burbs out of the water.

And for the record, I’m the first to say that both the festival and food scene in Lafayette is very good for a city of its size. My objection comes when people claim that Lafayette is as good or better than significantly larger cities. Or they try to cite to the local in home food culture as though it’s relevant in the context of living there. As though if someone moves to Lafayette that they can just show up to random house and have Nanny whip up a crawfish étouffée for dinner

New Orleans nationally. It’s basically a place to get drunk and vomit, piss all over the street and not feel bad about it.

It’s aggravating when people find out I’m from La and then talk about how much they enjoy ‘NOLA’

There's the flaw in your argument right there. People like you don't care about much else.

Talk to people from other countries when they visit or go read their opinions on social media. There's an international love affair with the American Antebellum South. Tourists come here by the hundreds of thousands every year to visit places like Natchez and Savannah and the major southern cities in between. New Orleans is often their launch point and always on their list of 'must see' places.
