Now there’s a sign saying if it’s seen or heard in the courtroom there’s a $75 (happy Terd?) fine and the device is siezed, but they let you take it through security and in the holding area and in the halls.
Just can’t record. Or be on it in the actual courtroom.
I remember that from when I was called. They would let you into the courtroom for voir dire with your cellphone, but they were very clear that the judge would NOT look kindly upon you if you pulled it out or it went off in the courtroom in the middle of seating a jury.
When I've had to be in court as a party or a witness when court was in session, though, there definitely was a deputy there manning the metal detectors and ensuring you didn't get past with a cellphone because the courtrooms were a strict no-fly zone for cellphones unless you were an officer of the court.
It was kind of interesting because a lot of people never see a jury selection. It's not sexy enough to be on TV. I distinctly remember being struck by everyone on the other side of the bar, including the judge, standing as the jury pool entered the gallery. I don't know if that's standard or it was how that judge ran his courtroom, but the memory vividly stuck with me. I also very vividly remember how mind numbing it was three hours later as the attorneys each asked prospective juror number eleventy-threeve the same exact list of questions we'd all heard eleventy-twove times before.

I always shave my head the night before. Works like a charm. Most times they don't call me up after roll call.

Show up with a rubber condom hat to really sell it.

I’ve always used “stay at home mom” as an excuse. They let me out every time with no problem.

Just tell them you're a conservative Christian. Defense attorney will kick you post haste.
I've been picked for a jury twice. On one, it was a policyholder that sued their insurance company and the other was a DUI case......even though I acknowledged that I own an adjusting compnay that represents insurance companies and that I had an uncle who was killed by a drunk driver. Go figure. Both suits were settled immediately after jury selection was completed.

Tell them you watch a lot of Law and Order
then ask them about the hypothetical race of the person
then ask them about the hypothetical race of the person

When asked if the defendants don’t call their client, to testify, how would you rule , I said guilty and was promptly dismissed

So I ended up just telling the truth and being myself. Then got selected. Then made it through first selection. Apparently i was the “most entertaining juror”, although I suppose the bar is low for a bunch of people watching lawyers ask questions with no other distractions.
Then got selected for the final jury.
In the end I was excited. It felt interesting to see the system in action and play my civic duty. To be an impartial citizen and hold the state to their burden of proof.
And then to top it all off, I just got told i’m getting paid in full for every day i’m On jury duty so it’s a win win. Actually stoked about it now

when asked a question or thought on a subject, just ask what the race of the person in the hypothetical is...
Then when told it shouldn’t matter, indignantly slur “o’course it does! How else would I know what kind of person they are!”

Someone I knew that was in the jury selection phase told me that one guy got up there and said a bunch of crap like justice should be swift and severe, and how he would believe a LEO before any crimina, etc. He was saying crap to try to get struck by the defense lawyers. The judge intervened and struck the juror and told the guy that he thought his answers were all answered in such a way to get out of jury duty. The judge told the guy that he wouldn't have to be a juror, but he ordered the guy to report to the court bailiff every morning for the next week and he would have to remain in court everyday until adjournment.

I have been called in only once, the assistant DA for trial was a former girlfriend, shortly after she saw me in the room a deputy escorted me out and said I would not be needed.

I know at least one lawyer who was given the bums rush out of jury duty as well. I was told they didn't want them.
Not sure what it’s like in Louisiana now, but being a lawyer doesn’t get you out of shot up here now.

Damnnnnnnn...yeah, I mostly wanted the usual humor of the OT While waiting. Once I got called up to the jurors box it kind of changed. Like a performance piece almost. Being on stage.
It actually turned out better for me because now once i’m done I won’t have to go again for a couple years.

Bro you bash the government all the time, yet you don't actually want to take part?

I didn’t want to lose out on Money. Now that i’m getting paid i’m excited to do my civic duty to hold the state to due process and have them ovecome reasonable doubt.

The thing is, now I can work from within the system.
