One passenger has been killed and more than 30 others others injured on a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore hit by severe turbulence. The Singapore-bound Boeing 777-300ER was diverted to Bangkok and landed at 15:45 local (08:00 GMT). The aircraft was carrying a total of 211 passengers and 18 crew, the airline said in a statement. "Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased," it said.

I'm sure a bunch of people went to the bathroom immediately after that turbulence.

Dam. While bad enough in and of itself considering 30 people injured and one dead after being tossed about in a can bad enough to injure 30 and kill 1 it is a testament to how safe air travel actually is....that sort of violent turbulence would, in most people's mind, mean the plane was doomed.

Hard to stay buckled up for 13+ hours...and not particularly healthy to do so....

It's true though. Journalists are writing stories on airline mishaps and inserting Boeing in headline to get clicks despite incident having nothing to with Boeing related issue.

Dang I just flew out of BKK today at 2pm. The article didn't say whether it was BKK or DMK. Singapore Airlines is a decent airline so I'm assuming it was BKK.

What does being a decent airline or not have to do with turbulence?

Of course it wasn't DMK.

Ok who else initially read this as …

“One dead 30 injured on London-Singapore fight”?

My reading skills are slowing deteriorating!

The good airlines go around the turbulence, bro.

He's talking about which airport in Bangkok the flight diverted to. Bangkok has two of them. DMK is the old main airport. BKK is the newer one where all the big carriers fly into. The budget airlines use DMK.

The longest flight I have been on was 4 hours, it seemed like 4 days. I don’t know how people do those long international flights without going stir crazy.

Oh yeah! Waaaay less healthy than NOT being buckled in and subsequently getting violently thrown around in a tin can going 400 mph, while being tossed around like a bartender drink shaker.

One passenger told Reuters news agency that the aircraft suddenly started "tilting up and there was shaking".

"So I started bracing for what was happening, and very suddenly there was a very dramatic drop so everyone seated and not wearing seatbelt was launched immediately into the ceiling," 28-year-old student Dzafran Azmir said.

"Some people hit their heads on the baggage cabins overhead and dented it, they hit the places where lights and masks are and broke straight through it."
