Dude, it’s not just old people
The point is old people are now no better about phones than younger people

I go out to eat several times per week, and I have never heard anyone listening to media at another table.

I refuse to go on long road trips with my MIL because of this. We have bought her in ear headphones, but they were uncomfortable. So we bought her the over the ear headphones, still uncomfortable. But what is comfortable is blasting her YouTube at max volume while she is in the presence of others.

My mother, (84 y/o) loves to put callers on speakerphone. maybe she can hear them better. kinda of a breach of phone etiquette, though.
I almost always put my phone on speaker, but I never talk on the phone in public on speaker. Unless it is my kid or wife, I call them back later when I can talk in private. It's rude to go around in public blasting your conversations or music.

I go to the local park every afternoon and walk 2.5 miles to clear my head after work, it's nice and peaceful / quiet.
Unless Kabish is there, never fails he falls in behind me about 20 yards with his phone on full blast while having a conversation in some foreign language.

What kills me about Boomers and their phones is this: if we Millennials had been as glued to screens as kids or teenagers, they would have absolutely lost their minds.
Yet here we are, and I’m reminding my Boomer parents to put their phones down and go play with their grandkids. Same deal with my wife’s parents. It’s wild. Honestly, it’s become a real problem.

I have to do that with the wife sometimes. She'll bust out the excuse, "they are watching tv or playing amongst themselves...." and I have to remind her that one day she'll look up from her phone and they'll be a year older. Or, the importance of knowing what they watch

Dude, be nice to old people, and remember some day you will be old as well.
A suggestion. Be nice. Next time you see an elderly person approach a door at a business, hold the door open for them. You may not think so, but small tokens of respect for the elderly makes a big difference in their life.
Fair enough?

Facetime in a public setting should be a jailable offense.

Absolutely. The older I get, the more “transparent” my filter gets. I really just DGAF any more.

TBH, I do send CBS News some condescending emails from my phone.
They may fall into the category of " blasting media " b/c all their reporters suck.

You're totally right here.
I'm not sure how old they are, but she can at least be engaged with them while watching TV. My 11 year old likes cooking competition shows, so we can talk to each other about how one chef is slicing the fish, how another chef is screwing up the rice, etc. My 13 year old likes football, violence, and anything with Kevin Hart in it. We watched Tropic Thunder together last weekend, etc.
