The GOAT. But they no longer do straight razor shaves.
I was disappointed to see that the other day. Grew up going to joes on Cleary…..

I got my haircuts from my youth from a farmer near us with a chair in his basement. My barber now is 82 years old and has been cutting hair for 63 years

My mom and dad took me to Joes barber shop in Baker when I was growing up. A cut was $6 and a drink out of the old timely bottle machine was .25
I felt like one of the guys when dad would bring me in there and listen to them banter back and forth. All the old guys from back then have been gone for awhile and they are tearing down the old barber shop now. Good memories

My dad never went to a sportscuts or sportsclips. He went to see a guy named Tony Marino on north boulevard in BR. No nonsense cut.

What are the chances he bothered to sanitize the straight razor back then.
Baw, all of those guys had the jar with the nondescript blueish liquid that they dunked everything in. Seemed to work

Vices in new Iberia and Andy’s in Hammond. Both would beat the local paper to the headlines.
Andy’s refused to cut the drunk driver that killed my aunt. Barber shop justice!

When I was a kid we went to an old time barber who was a Marine and our school bus driver. Mr Murphy was not a man to mess with

My dad used to take me to Joe’s barber shop near LSU to get a flat top every month. It was so cool to hear them talk bets and catch up on all the local events that weren’t reported on the news. The warm shaving cream on the neck and side burns were awesome. Wish I could find a place like that today

Anyone ever go to the old school barbers in the LSU Union? They used to do a kick arse flat top.
I graduated in the early 90s and still went to the Union for a few years after I moved to Gonzales until I found a “real” barbershop there.

One time he had a heart attack and was back cutting hair a few days later. Mr Johnson was his name. RIP and Semper Fi.
Was his name Bobby Johnson? We went to his barbershop in Shreveport when I was a kid in the 70s. No shaving that I recall, but it seemed like I got an ear nicked almost every visit.

Yep, I got my haircut at Luther's in Bocage from when I needed a booster seat through high school. It sucked when they moved upstairs in the back. The gum machine was the best, you got a handful of those little square ones.

Claude’s in Kenner.
By the time I started going there in early 90s it was like $8. Learned a lot about life going there.

Late 70s to early 80s, old pervert on Jefferson Hwy near river ridge used to brush up against my shoulders and arms with his boner. I had no idea what was going on because I was like 10.
It costs more but I only goto female barbers.

They’re still out there. One of the best aspects of living out here in BFE is going to get my haircut for $13 and talking local high school sports. No women in there complaining about color options.

Rip Mr. Johnson and thank you sir.

I remember when I was a kid the old school barber who had his shop by Ramers on Inniswold. He’d say that if I wasn’t still he’d cut my ear off. lol
When I was around 12 I remember going to a barber shop with my grandfather in Covington. It was something straight out of Mayberry. Just a bunch of old guys hanging around, reading the papers, getting a shave, and cussing about politics and minorities.

City barber shop was in the same ally as my dad's office. Every other Sat. my brother and me would get the flat top. Old style barbershop with two or three stations. Had a shoeshine stand for a while.

I loved Joe's. Went by that location the other day and the building is gone.
Cutrones on Jefferson still does the hot towels and razor for the neckline.

There are still two in the DFW area that I know of. Both use a straight razor to shave neck and around ears. Wrights Barber Shop in Plano, and Campus Barber Shop in Denton. Both give great haircuts for about $25.00

It's not $5, but we've got an old school Mexican barber shop in town. I go in every 6 weeks or so to get my beard shaped up.
