If he jumped in, by all means, let nature take its course. But the guy's actions appear to me as if he fell in, and wants out very badly. So you save the guy. Period.

perhaps he only realized how much he wanted to live AFTER he made the death jump and was face to face with the tiger.

ETA- apparently he was chunking rocks at the tiger while standing on the guard rail. I'd say he got what he deserved.

According to our source, there were about six deep wounds on the left side of Maqsood’s neck. There was excessive bleeding from the wounds. The Tiger did not eat any body part of the victim.

So here, do you believe, that the said Tiger was actually trying to save that young man from stones thrown by those idiotic on lookers on Tuesday (23 Sept, 2014) after that guy fell into a ditch in the animal's enclosure and was unable to climb out to safety. That's why the Tiger caught the neck of that man, and kept far from public. Unfortunately his teeth wound that guy. Tiger generally catch her kids on neck to save them from any threat. Apart from his neck there were no wounds on Maqsood’s body, as the forensic report said. Tiger kids have an extra thick fur and skin on their neck so that it can be carried by the mother tiger (though in this incident, the Tiger was male, named Vijay).

So there's that theory. The bystanders were throwing rocks, so some believe the tiger was trying to get the guy away from the projectiles.

It actually does with what you're suggesting

Please elaborate. Seriously, which part? Cause I'm not getting it. There is absolutely nothing difficult about carrying a defense item OR having cheesy makeshift head and upper body protection OR standby help. Having none of that is completely unacceptable! Its not debatable.

from the video linked after the OP video.

Several theories have been doing the rounds on social media about the reason behind the much talked Tiger incident from Delhi Zoo. After the Forensic report of the victim came, which suggested that the young man, later-identified by police as Maqsood Khan, 20, died of suffocation. According to our source, there were about six deep wounds on the left side of Maqsood’s neck. There was excessive bleeding from the wounds. The Tiger did not eat any body part of the victim. According to the zoo keepers, Vijay is quite a “docile animal” who was in a playful mood when Maqsood fell into his enclosure. “But as is clear from the video (viral one), constant noise by the crowd and stone pelting angered the animal,” a senior official of the National Zoological Park (NZP) told Bengal Newz.

Seven pages and not one mention that the guy showed signs of being autistic?

That kind of hand movement is typical for someone on the spectrum especially in situations that make them nervous.

Well if nervousness is one of the signs of autism this poor Indian fella was definitely showing it. I think this if true could have triggered the tiger.

Why were all the people that were watching not throwing rock and stuff at the tiger to scare it off?

Looks like he gave up his claim to be a rational creature. He joined the ranks of lions and tigers and bears. He wasn't adequately prepared.
