No possible way that could go wrong

Again, of course it can go wrong. Can you tell me of any human endeavor that can’t go wrong. Football games? Surely there have been people trampled to death. Space exploration? Fishing trips?

People will die because of this, just as people die installing solar farms, producing oil and gas, building high rises, and so forth. But there is nothing inherently risky about this. It is much less risky than most chemical plants or power plants.

OLCV will use the land to permanently sequester industrial carbon dioxide (CO2) in underground geologic formations not associated with oil and gas production, while Weyerhaeuser continues to manage the aboveground acreage as a working forest.

Looks like they'll still be working the land above.

Not to mention that Louisiana is actually losing land. As in it is going away.

What does it lose faster? land or people?

Why? I’m okay with it being stored a mile under my house, with 6 impermeable shale layers between the CO2 and top of grade.

We already have huge swaths of land that was developed even though it was sitting on top of natural gas fields.

Yet one more way to spend unnecessary money on putting CO2 in the ground just dumb.
When a human inhales O2 what is a human exhaling?

Occidental Chemical used to be called Hooker Chemical. Hooker brought us Love Canal and other Superfund sites. I trust ‘em.

Meanwhile, there was a big creosote operation on the southeast corner of I-12 and Hwy 51 in Hammond. But I’m confident they cleaned it all up before developing the land.

I don’t get it, why would it make development above the ground unlikely?

Because inevitably some couyon is going to poke a hole in the formation, and then we have Lake Peigneur all over again.

Without knowing of the logistics of something like this. Why not find some vast nearly unusable land in New Mexico, Arizona etc. to do this.

Because, as it turns out, there are billions of cubic feet of "unusable land" just a few miles below the surface.

All posters should know that CO2 gas does not burn. There will be no firey explosions destroying homes. OXY is doing the World a favor for pumping underground. Also spending millions of dollars to do this.

This will be on timber property that Weyerhaeuser leases for hunting. No one lives in the woods. It’ll be okay.

With the addition of about 4% CO2
