It’s not hard at all to hit 2500 calories in a day I get what you’re saying about it being a choice, but there are a lot of calorie bomb foods out there and people can easily hit that mark everyday without realizing it if not paying attention. Especially if you’re eating 3 meals plus a snack. (Snacking is what gets these people I think. A bag of chips is insane calories considering how little it helps hunger).

ETA: I also think that a lot of women just match the men in the amount they eat now. These giant portions out there are not going to sit on a 5’3 frame like they will a 6’0 but we all get the same portions and women are out here clearing plates.

I don’t think you are reading the entire post. I said it’s not hard IF YOU ARE EATING WHOLE FOODS.

Try to eat 6 large sweet potatoes in a day and get back to me. It doesn’t even have to be a sweet potato. Try a regular potato or just 1,000 calories or rice. Its an insane amount

1,000 calories of cooked rice is 5 cups of rice. Try to eat that in a day and let me know. You will be extremely full and you aren’t even half way to your calories.

I see you said (WHOLE) food on a reread. Yes, eating nutrient dense food that doesn’t resemble lab-made crack-like addictive junk will leave you full quicker and longer.

Yep. Ozempic proved this. People are losing weight at insane rates. They aren’t exercising at all. Ozempic is only making them feel full so they eat less. The same could be accomplished with discipline.

While it could be accomplished with discipline, the human brain is absolutely incredible at justifying the status quo and protecting itself from change. Food genuinely is an addiction for many people, and a particularly hard one to kick because you can’t exactly cut it out cold turkey like you would alcohol or cigarettes.

I’m really happy for people that they have an option to help them change their behavior patterns. I’m hoping that this will help change the conversation from the absurd “my body won’t let me lose weight” to acknowledging that, no, their brain wouldn’t let them lose weight, but that’s fixable.

I’m concerned that people will try to claim the medicine does something to their body that it doesn’t as some absurd post hoc justification for why they couldn’t lose weight before.

That’s not what they are eating though.

Probably something out if a box.

It’s a choice to an extent. Some people just have genetics that make it hard for weight to be lost. Everyone’s different. It’s not a one size fits all situation like you want it to be.

Correct. My point is that it’s a choice made at the grocery store mostly.

What? Obesity is a BMI of 30 or above. That is not 5-10 lbs overweight.

You can argue that the BMI tables are too low, but the average obese male is about 40 lbs overweight.

Why do you knuckle draggers worry about the fatties so much?
Because when I pay $400 dollars for a concert ticket or $600 dollars for an airplane ticket or 15 dollars for a movie,.....I don't want to share the space I paid for with someone who is a slob who cannot show the least bit of self-restraint and is eating greasy double nachos while trying to crowd me.

I eat a bowl of yogurt everyday for breakfast, I eat fast food lunch every work day, and I eat supper at night. On top of that I’ll have some chips, and a cocktail. The only diet thing I do is drink diet soda if I’m drinking soda.

I think everyone is under estimating activity levels. I have a job in which I’m rarely not moving. I’m 50 years old, I’m 6’ about 185, and wear size 32 waist pants. I think if I had an office job I would have to concentrate a lot more on caloric intake than I currently do.

I hope all you thin, fit people get some horrible incurable disease when you go out. I'm going out with a handful of Pecan Sandies.

Wrong.

There weren’t 300-400lb people 200 years ago.

Some people have lower metabolic rates but the point is that it is hard to eat enough calories to maintain that weight so it’s a choice made by the types of food you eat.

Now some people might be 5-10 lbs overweight as a result of genetics all things being equal but you don’t get to 300 lbs without serious hard work on some shitty foods on a daily basis.

Also if it was genetics, why does ozempic work so well? Does it change your genetics?

All it does is make you feel full so you eat less. That’s it’s. There is no magic.

I mean we let corporations pump all kind of artificial flavors and chemicals into our food and now we are crying about obesity? The unhealthy and processed food is way cheaper than the healthy stuff as well.
I recently stood in the grocery line behind a woman and 3 of her pre-teen/teen boys. I wondered how she could afford to feed those big boys.

Both carts were loaded with all WHITE foods. Big bags of rice, pasta, macaroni & cheese, cases of cup-o-noodles, frozen waffles, loaves of white bread, bananas, 20 lbs sugar and Kool-Aid packets, 20 lb bag potatoes, cases of ramen noodles, tubs of butter, frozen pancakes, etc. I suppose that was the cheapest way to fill their guts, but damn how unhealthy.

Easy solution to that. Stay home.

It works by making you feel full (satiety), lowering insulin levels, and increasing metabolism. It's not magic, but definitely more effective that just lowering calories.

You sure about that? There have been some very hefty sovereigns over the centuries. You know, the people who actually had access to a glut of caloric excess.

Now we all can get calories, in excess of the greatest kings of yore. Shocking that we've all gotten bigger.

Im blessed that I can eat two slices of pizza and be satisfied for hours. It isnt discipline, its how Ive always been.

Of course, those arent as lucky can overcome with willpower. But we all know the health impacts of obesity. We all generally find fat people unattractive and people want to be seen as attractive.

Yet, most people end up failing their weight loss goals.

Its almost like our biology wants to make us fat and we're all generally fighting that nature now that we have such an excess of cheap calories.
