MIDTOWN EAST, Manhattan (WABC) -- Several floors of a Midtown Manhattan office building that's under construction are caving in on Tuesday, prompting the evacuation of several adjacent buildings and street closures.

The high-rise, at 235 E. 42nd St., is on the corner of East 42nd Street and Second Avenue and is the former headquarters of the Pfizer pharmaceutical company and is under conversion to residential use.

Around 8 a.m., construction workers noticed cracks inside the building. The FDNY say the workers spotted structural support beams beginning to buckle on the 21st and 22nd floors and self-evacuated.

I'm glad NYC is diversified, tho

No big deal. The magnanimous Communist will simply have taxpayers in Schenectady and Poughkeepsie pay for it. And then claim it cost the city nothing.

If it collapases, will they allow the feet of a corpse to stick out over the street for weeks on end like NOLA did ?

I want to see if it just falls straight down in it's own footprint, or if it falls over like a tree.

I worked in that building about 15 years ago.

Could have been me.

They have different plans for future use and something major happens that helps speed up the process? What a coincidence.

You know what they say, if you can't weaponize forest fires you can always collapse a building.

Her credentials as a "31 year veteran of the FDNY" being touted was hilarious.

She was exclusively on the EMT side. Never been in a fire fight in her life.

WTH does caved in mean? A cave in is a collapse. I didn't see a collapse. Perhaps they mean the floors are sagging.
